Version 3 and Genre Charts

Pleased to announce that the website will be receiving a massive overhaul during the week of April 10th as we launch version 3. The majority of it is backend stuff, but it’ll clear up a lot of confusion when it comes to new entires and thus speed up the tabulation process greatly. That said we’re at a point where we’ve been able to publish the new chart as of 5pm for the last three Tuesdays!

This new version will pave the way for the official launch of Genre charts. Speaking of which, I wanted to address a few things.

1) We’re still in need of stations to get us charts for genres so that we can start tabulating. We’re currently accepting them via email to submit@naccchart.com

2) We’ve had several people reach out to express that they feel “urban” is too broad a genre that possibly just creates a catch-all for music by people of color. We agree and are aware of this. So it’s understood, our initial thinking was that it would (for the launch period) cover Soul, R’n’B, Hip-hop and Rap until one or more of those genres had enough reporting shows/stations to sustain individual charts. In the grand scope of the music industry, Urban and Latin, for that matter, are recognized as “genres” but we understand that in the current, wonderfully diverse, landscape of college and non-commercial radio these labels might be out-dated. So for the time being we’re going to hold off on those charts until we can get a better sense of what specific genres in those categories will have enough stations reporting for us to build a chart.
