The NACC Charts for January 30, 2018 are LIVE!

We are four charts into 2018 but College and Community Radio seem hesitant to let go of 2017. The Top 3 (all of which have reached #1 on the NACC 200) is comprised of releases that came out in October and November of last year. And after starting the year climbing to #1, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings have returned to the top this week after ceding the pinnacle to Fever Ray for two weeks. Congrats to Daptone for a rare return to #1!

The 2018 floodgates do seem to finally be opening this week though with a whopping five new records reaching the Top 10. One of them, from Aaron Maine aka Porches, is the NACC 200’s biggest mover, soaring 168-6. We mentioned here last week that we expected a big move for the record but that is a massive one. The follow-up to his 2016 Domino Records debut certainly looks like it will be competing for #1 soon.

Since our biggest mover on the chart is also the biggest mover into the Top 10, we have an opportunity to highlight another notable move this week. tUnE-YArDs race from 32-5 and certainly look in line to battle for #1 as well. The brainchild of Merrill Garbus, tUnE-yArDs has existed since 2006. I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life is the fourth release for this project and their first since 2014. Of note, tUnE-yArDs’ 2011 album Whokill was the number one album of the year in The Village Voice’s annual Pazz & Jop critic’s poll.

With our #1 add also scoring the highest debut this week (and we’ll get to that in a moment), we can feature another album making a big move. De Lux score the second biggest climb on the NACC 200. The Los Angeles duo of Sean Guirin and Isaac Franco have been making music together since they were 15. Their third album, More Disco Songs About Love (out on Innovative Leisure) jumps 165-25 this week.

Lining himself up to challenge for #1 as soon as next week as well is a new release from the wildly prolific Ty Segall. Freedom’s Goblin is Segall’s 10th studio album since 2008, though he has over two dozen separate singles and EPs sandwiched between them. This new release is not only the #1 Add this week (and the first one this year to collect 100+ Top 10 Adds), but the NACC 200’s highest debut as well at #24.

You can view the Top 20 of the NACC 200 below as well as all of this week’s #1s. There are new #1s on the Hip Hop, Folk, and NACC Next Charts this week including our first ever Advanced Tracks release to reach #1 on a chart (Superorganism, whose album doesn’t come out until March, top NACC Next), plus a return to #1 at World. And we have an inaugural #1 on our newest genre chart (which is in beta): New Age.
