#1 Courtney Barnett | The NACC Charts for July 17, 2018 are LIVE!

Another chart, another week at #1 for Courtney Barnett. Her Mom + Pop release, Tell Me How You Really Feel, has now spent five weeks at #1, matching Alvvays for the second longest run ever on the NACC 200 and the longest this year. In the process Barnett is holding two indie rock titans out of the top spot: Father John Misty (#1 at NACC NEXT) and Neko Case (#1 at NACC Non-Comm) are locked in again at #2 and #3 respectively. And Gorillaz are now seriously in the mix too, leaping 15-4. Barnett has had heady praise heaped upon her with some calling her the voice of her generation and one of this generation’s best songwriters and radio certainly seems to agree. Barnett will try to match St. Vincent next week for the longest run ever on the NACC 200.

Last week’s top added record and highest debut from Gorillaz becomes the biggest climber into the Top 10 this week. OK, it’s also the only new record in the Top 10, but it’s still an impressive climb, with the Warner Bros. release, The Now Now, jumping 15-4. That climb is all the more impressive given the logjam of records near the top of the NACC 200. Gorillaz collaborator Del The Funky Homosapien had a real scare recently performing with the band when he fell of the stage during a performance of “Clint Eastwood” at Denmark’s Roskilde Festival. This week, we learned just how extensive those injuries were: seven fractured ribs and a punctured lung. Ouch.

The NACC 200’s highest debut this week is the debut LP from Hannah Van Loon aka Tanukichan. The San Francisco musician first came on the scene with her 2016 EP, Radiolove, a record she collaborated on with Toro Y Moi’s Chaz Bear. Bear also co-wrote and produced her new Company release, Sundays. The album soars onto the chart this week at #22. Tanukichan plays select dates across the country over the next two weeks, performing in Seattle, San Francisco, NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia & DC.

Enjoying the biggest climb on the chart this week is LA-duo courtship. whose debut LP, Denial In Paradise, leaps 194-67. Comprised of songwriters Micah Gordon and Eli Hirsch, Courtship have been making upbeat, sunny music since 2016. Early singles received huge exposure on Spotify and the duo have now self-released their first full length.

Taking most-added honors this week is Jenn Champion, the stage name for Jennifer Hays. Champion grew up in Tucson, AZ where she met future Carissa’s Wierd bandmate Mat Brooke. They eventually relocated to Seattle and released a number of albums, actively performing as a band from 1995-2003 and again in 2011 for a brief reunion. Champion has released four solo albums (under the name S), beginning with Sadstyle in 2001, and leading up to this new album, Single Rider, out on Hardly Art. In addition to landing the most adds this week, the album debuts on the NACC 200 at #74.

NACC’s #1 single for a third week in-a-row comes from indie darlings Death Cab For Cutie. “Gold Rush” is the lead single from their upcoming ninth release, Thank You For Today. The most-added single this week is new music from DIY champions Metric. “Dark Saturday” is the highest placing single on the adds chart since early January.

All of this week’s #1 genre releases (as well as the most added genre records of the week) can be found here. After a big turnover week last week, only the NACC Electronic Chart sees a new #1 (from British DJ and producer Leon Vynehall).
