#1 Weyes Blood | The NACC Charts for April 23, 2019

After seeing five #1s in as many weeks, the NACC 200 has an album grab a second week on top for the first time since March 5. Titanic Rising, the fourth LP from Natalie Mering aka Weyes Blood, holds tight at #1 after jumping 8-1 last week. Weyes Blood’s Sub Pop release will try to lock down #1 for a third week next week. The artist that looks to give her the most competition will be Jenny Lewis, who rises 6-3 this week.

Two albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Masked country crooner Orville Peck rises 11-8 landing his first NACC Top 10 record. The other comes from Los Angeles musician Michael Collins, who records as Drugdealer. His second album, Raw Honey (out on Mexican Summer), is a collaborative effort with a bevy of musicians including the aforementioned Weyes Blood, who lends her vocals to the song “Honey.” Like Orville Peck, it becomes his first NACC Top 10 record as well, rising 12-7 this week.

The NACC 200’s highest debut comes from Dublin, Ireland punk quintet, Fontaines D.C. Buzz has been building for the band since 2017 with a series of singles, much talked about live shows, and being signed to Partisan Records. Their debut LP, Dogrel, just debuted inside the Top 10 of the UK Albums Chart and the Top 5 of the Irish Albums Chart. And now the album jumps aboard the NACC 200 at #37.

No album climbs over 100 spots on the NACC 200 this week (the first time that’s happened since January 15). Both Norah Jones (112-32) and Anderson Paak (160-75) make notable climbs, but Circa Waves makes the biggest move this week, up 196-97, with their third LP, What’s It Like Over There? After two releases on Virgin, the band is now signed to PIAS.

The most-added album this week comes from longtime indie favorites The Mountain Goats. In League With Dragons is their seventeenth album. The band was formed in 1991 by John Darnielle who The New Yorker called “America’s best non-hip-hop lyricist’ in 2005 and who Paste Magazine included in their ‘100 Best Living Songwriters’ feature in 2006. Their new Merge Records release collected 88 Top 10 Adds this week and debuted at #99 on the NACC 200.

Tame Impala remains at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart for a fourth straight week with “Patience.” They also become only the second act to land two songs inside the NACC Singles Top 10 simultaneously (Metric was the first) as “Borderline” jumps 17-6. Beck is back with new music. “Saw Lightning” it by far the most-added single of the week scoring a rare Top 10 single add placement overall this week and coming just a couple Top 10 adds shy of the Top 5.
