#1 Weyes Blood | The NACC Charts for May 7, 2019

Weyes Blood matches Girlpool this week for the longest run atop the NACC 200 so far this year. Her fourth LP, Titanic Rising (Sub Pop), enjoys a fourth week at #1. You can catch, or at least try to catch, Weyes Blood on her upcoming tour. It starts in San Francisco on May 14 and wraps June 13 in Los Angeles, though it’s a hot ticket with nine of the 22 dates already sold out. Titanic Rising will try to become the first five-week #1 album of the year next week though competition will be extremely fierce with Broken Social Scene up 4-2 this week and two more albums (that we’ve featured here) hot on her heals.

One of those other #1 contenders for next week is another Sub Pop release. Tacocat‘s fourth LP, This Mess Is A Place, roars from 88-8 on the NACC 200 this week after scoring most-added honors last week. They are joined in the Top 10 by another band we featured here a couple of weeks ago: Fontaines DC. Their album was the highest debut on the NACC 200 two weeks ago and has climbed 25-10 this week.

The last of our most-likely challengers for #1 next week is the highly anticipated new record from Vampire Weekend. The album landed a very rare ‘advance tracks’ highest debut on the NACC 200 back in March and the first two dual-released singles from the album spent a record-breaking five weeks atop the NACC Singles Chart. So it’s no wonder that Father Of The Bride (Spring Snow/Columbia), the band’s fourth album and first since 2013, is the third highest debut of the year at #15. It’s also the most-added album of the week edging out King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.

Making the biggest climb on the NACC 200 this week (and the second biggest this year) is Kevin Morby. The Lubbock, TX-born, Kansas City-raised musician now calls Los Angeles home. Oh My God is his fifth studio album and third released by Dead Oceans. Morby rises 197-33 this week, just a handful of spots from matching Mercury Rev’s 168-spot jump in February.

Beck maintains the #1 spot this week on the NACC Singles Chart with “Saw Lightning,” the first song from his upcoming fourteenth LP, Hyperspace. He also climbs 38-31 on the NACC 200 this week. Michelle Zauner, who records as Japanese Breakfast, has the most-added single of the week with “Essentially,” a one-off single she recorded for W Records, the boutique label of W Hotels.

You can find the Top 5 of the NACC Adds Chart and all of this week’s #1 genre releases and most-added genre records below. This week sees Weyes Blood climb to #1 at NACC Non-Comm, Broken Social Scene soar 9-1 on the NACC NEXT Chart, and new chart-toppers at Heavy and Electronic as well as a return to #1 at Jazz.
