#1 Vampire Weekend | The NACC Charts for May 28, 2019

Last week we said don’t count Vampire Weekend out when they were dethroned after just one week at #1. Turns out one week wasn’t enough, as the album rises back to the top this week. Father Of The Bride (Spring Snow/Columbia) didn’t seem done after having jumped 15-1 the week before and climbing over Tacocat (last week’s #1) to get to the top. This two-way battle looks to become a whole lot more crowded next week. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (4-3) and Big Thief (5-4) would still like to get to #1. But more likely to challenge next week are the next two artists we’re featuring this week.

Up first is last week’s highest debut on the NACC 200. Cincinnati outfit The National are wasting no time racing up the chart with their eighth LP, I Am Easy To Find. After debuting last week at #29 the album soars to #5 this week and certainly lines them up to challenge for #1 next week.

The other immediate challenger for #1 next week comes from last week’s most-added album from Cate Le Bon. The Wales native not only enjoys the highest debut of the week on the NACC 200, but she also ties Alt-J and Sharon Van Etten for the highest ever debut on the chart opening in rarefied first-week air at #6 with her fifth LP, Reward (Mexican Summer).

This week’s biggest climbing album is the sophomore release from Melbourne, Australia native Alex Lahey. Her 2017 debut album, Love You Like A Brother, landed on a number of year-end best-of lists. The Best Of Luck Club, out on Dead Oceans, races from 141-32 on the NACC 200 this week.

Collecting the most Top 10 adds this week is Sydney, Australia trio Middle Kids. After releasing its debut LP, Lost Friends, in 2018, the band have now released their second EP, New Songs For Old Problems. The Domino release also debuts on the NACC 200 this week at #100.

Tame Impala rises back to #1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week with “Patience.” It’s their fifth cumulative week at #1 and one of two songs they have in the Top 5 of the chart this week (something only one other band, Metric, have ever done before). The most-added single this week comes from New Jersey singer and rapper Danielle Balbuena, who records as 070 Shake, with her dual single “Morrow” b/w “Nice To Have.”

You can find the Top 5 of the NACC Adds Chart and all of this week’s #1 genre releases and most-added genre records below. We have new #1s at NACC Non-Comm, World, Heavy, Jazz, Electronic, and returns to #1 at Chill and Folk.
