#1 Vampire Weekend | The NACC Charts for June 4, 2019

Vampire Weekend hold off the impending tidal wave of new releases and lock down #1 on the NACC 200 for a third week with Father Of The Bride (Spring Snow/Columbia), their fourth LP and first since 2013 (their longest gap between releases). Next week they’ll have a number of albums to fend off including The National (5-2), King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (3-3) and Cate Le Bon (6-4) as they try to match Girlpool and Weyes Blood for the longest #1-run of 2019.

The biggest move into the NACC Top 10 this week comes from the legendary Mavis Staples. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member (as part of The Staple Singers), Grammy winner, Kennedy Center honoree, and Blues Hall of Fame inductee will celebrate her 80th birthday next month. Staples’ 14th LP, We Get By, is part of her most productive period of music as a solo artist. Her third LP in just four years races 108-8 on the NACC 200 this week.

The highest debut of the week on the NACC 200 comes from Atlanta-based folk singer Faye Webster. After signing to Secretly Canadian Records in late 2018, Webster has released her first album for the label, and her third overall following her 2017 self-titled LP. Her latest effort, Atlanta Millionaires Club, jumps aboard the chart this week at #25.

The biggest climber this week is an interesting one as the album has been charting for six weeks already and fell almost as many spots last week as it climbs this week. It comes from Warwick, New York-born singer Gus Dapperton. After releasing two EPs in 2017 and 2018, he released his first LP this year. Where Polly People Go To Read leaps back up the chart from 196-53, which is a new peak for the album on the NACC 200.

Taking most-added honors this week is Melbourne, Australia’s mullet-enthusiasts Amyl And The Sniffers. What the quartet are sniffing is not clear, but their love of 70s style punk and glam certainly is on their debut self-titled LP. Following two self-released EPs in 2016 & 2017, their ATO-debut not only gathers the most Top 10 adds this week but also leaps aboard the NACC 200 at #55.

Tame Impala now has the record for most weeks at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart with “Patience,” which logs a sixth non-consecutive week on top. Sufjan Stevens returns with two new songs (“Love Yourself” and “With My Whole Heart”) and lands the most-added single of the week.
