#1 Mavis Staples | The NACC Charts for June 25, 2019

What do you think you’ll be doing on the eve of your 80th birthday? Legendary R&B and gospel singer Mavis Staples is enjoying her first College and Community radio #1 with her 14th solo LP, We Get By. The Anti- Records release extends her musical career to nearly 70 years! From joining her family group The Staple Singers in 1950 (who released over 25 albums in their time together), to collaborations with the likes of Bob Dylan, Ray Charles & Prince, to her current solo career, the Grammy winner and Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee now has a #1 NACC 200 record rising 3-1 this week.

Two new albums find their way into the NACC Top 10. Stef Chura (who we first showcased here last week as the highest debut-of-the-week) rises 12-7 this week. But the biggest climb into the top tier comes from Palehound. We featured them for the first time last week as well when they enjoyed the biggest climb on the NACC 200. This week the band leap 16-8 with Black Friday, their third LP, out on Polyvinyl Records.

Chicago’s Fruit Bats are back. The band has released eight studio albums since forming in 1997. Gold Past Life is the second since Fruit Bats’ demise in 2013 (and subsequent resurrection in 2015) and the first for Merge Records. A number of personnel changes have happened over the years, but the band revolves around Eric D. Johnson. Gold Past Life leaps aboard the NACC 200 this week at #33.

Since forming in 2010, British quartet Bastille has balanced indie credibility and commercial success. From their breakthrough Billboard Top 5 2013 hit “Pompeii” to last year’s Billboard Hot 100 #2-peaking hit “Happier” with Marshmello, the band has sold over nine million albums worldwide. Their third LP, Doom Days, is this week’s biggest climber on the NACC 200, jumping 134-36.

The most-added album of the week comes from Australian musician Harriette Pilbeam, who records as Hatchie. Her debut EP, Sugar & Spice reached #9 on the NACC 200 last year right around this time. Now her first LP, Keepsake, has collected the most Top 10 adds of the week. The Double Double Whammy release also debuts on the NACC 200 this week at #65.

Bon Iver‘s dual singles “Hey Ma” b/w “U (Man Like)” spend a second week at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week. And the Brit Daniels-led Spoon returns with “No Bullets Spent,” the lone new song on their upcoming greatest hits collection due out next month.

You can find the Top 5 of the NACC Adds Chart and all of this week’s #1 genre releases and most-added genre records below. There are new #1s at NACC NEXT, Heavy (a rare #1 debut), Jazz, and Latin (Santana, who are headlining Woodstock 50 in August).
