#1 The Black Keys | The NACC Charts for August 13, 2019

The Black Keys now have the title for the NACC 200’s longest run at #1 in 2019 all to themselves. After tying several other albums for the crown last week, their Easy Eye Sound/Nonesuch Records release ‘Let’s Rock’ has sole bragging rights by scoring a fifth week on top. It’s also the longest run at #1 since last October when Mitski spent an unprecedented eight weeks in the penthouse. The Black Keys will try to hold off a number of records for in an effort to extend their run on top next week

One of the albums closing in on the Black Keys is the new eponymous Purple Mountains album recorded by David Berman, which rises 4-2 this week. Obviously the devastating news of Berman’s death last week casts a deep pall over the charts this week. We here at NACC extend our sympathies to his family and friends.

Three albums rise into the NACC Top 10 this week including Kyle Craft (up 14-6) and Dude York (who moves into #1 range rising 13-4). But it’s Claire Cottrill, who records as Clairo, who makes the biggest waves. Last week’s most-added album (Immunity, out of the Fader Label) soars 62-5 and moves right into #1 contention.

California quintet Oh Sees, fronted by John Dwyer, has released its third LP (as Oh Sees) in three years, but under the band’s myriad other names (OCS, The Ohsees, The Oh Sees, and Thee Oh Sees), the band has 22 LPs under their belt since Dwyer started the project in 1997. Their Caste Face release, Face Stabber, explodes onto the NACC 200 at #11, the fourth highest debut of 2019.

The Los Angeles duo of Inara George and Greg Kurstin have recorded as The Bird And The Bee since 2006. They’ve recorded five LPs and two of them have been cover albums in a series they call Interpreting The Masters. Volume 1, out in 2010, covered Hall & Oates. Volume 2 (out on the duo’s own Release Me Records) covers Van Halen. The album is this week’s biggest climber on the NACC 200, up 175-42.

English singer Marika Hackman has returned with her third LP, Any Human Friend. The Sub Pop release is the most-added album of the week. And it’s also the most-added album of the whole summer. In fact, her 87 Top 10 Adds are the most any album has received since April. That was Tacocat’s This Mess Is A Place. And that album went on to hit #1. So the pressure is on!

Wilco‘s “Love Is Everywhere (Beware)” logs a third straight week at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week. It’s the first song from their upcoming 11th LP, Ode To Joy. Juliana Hatfield has the most-added single this week with her cover of the Police’s “De Do Do Do. De Da Da Da.” It’s the first song from her second Juliana Hatfield Sings album (the first being her take on Olivia Newton John’s catalog).
