Soccer Mommy locks down the #1 spot on the NACC 200 for a third week

Locking down the top spot on the NACC 200 for the third week is Sophie Allison aka Soccer Mommy.  Her fourth LP, Color Theory (Loma Vista/Concord), matches Beck’s Hyperspace for the most weeks at #1 in 2020 (though he spent a total of four weeks on top, including the last chart of 2019).  She’ll look to score the most weeks at #1 for the year next week unless Caribou, Real Estate, or Ratboys can stop her.

Often when a record is the most-added of the week but doesn’t debut on the NACC 200 that week, it ends up becoming the next week’s highest debut.  That is the case this week as Los Angeles three-piece Moaning leaps aboard the chart at #21. Their sophomore LP, Uneasy Laughter (Sub Pop), bests two other lofty debuts inside the Top 30 of the chart (which we’ll get to momentarily).

One of those high debuts also happens to be the most-added album of the week as well.   Katie Crutchfield, who records as Waxahatchee, is back with her fifth LP, Saint Cloud (out on Merge Records).  It follows up her 2017 release, Out In The Storm, which was also the most-added record of the week upon its release and went on to reach #1 on the NACC 200.  Saint Cloud debuts at #24 on the chart this week.

The week’s biggest climb on the NACC 200 comes from Denver, Colorado musician Esmé Patterson There Will Come Soft Rains (BMG) is Patterson’s fourth release and jumps from 175-64 this week, the only album to climb more than 100 spots on the NACC 200 this week.

No new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week, though Andy Shauf’s recent #1 album does edge back up 11-10.  That means we can shine a light on another album this week.  This week’s bonus feature is the new release from actor and musician Donald Glover who records as Childish Gambino.  His fourth LP, and first for RCA, is 3.15.20.  It was a surprise release when it began streaming on his website on that date and jumps aboard the NACC 200 at #26 this week.

The Killers lands a second week at #1 with “Caution,” the first single from their sixth LP, Imploding The Mirage, due May 29.  Two artists tie for most-added single honors this week: Bright Eyes returns after a nine-year absence with “Personal Non Grata,” which precedes an as-yet-untitled new album due out later this year.  Run The Jewels also returned with two songs from their upcoming fourth LP, appropriately named Run The Jewels 4.

The NACC Top 20, the Top 5 overall NACC Adds, all of this week’s #1 genre releases, and most-added genre records are included below.  There are new #1s at NACC Canadian, Folk, R&B/Soul, & Blues as well as a return to #1 at NACC Non-Comm.
