The LA-based band, Chicano Batman, secures a second week at #1 on the NACC 200 this week with their fourth LP, Invisible People (ATO Records). The album also rises 2-1 on the NACC Non-Comm Chart this week. On June 5th the band donated 100% of their digital sales from Bandcamp to organizations providing bail assistance to protesters and helping vulnerable populations in their hometown during Covid-19. Perfume Genuius and Diet Cig are creeping up behind Chicano Batman looking for their own #1 spotlight next week.
Only one new album reaches the NACC Top 10 this week. It comes from San Francisco band Deerhoof. This is their third straight week being featured here as two weeks ago they had the most-added record and last week were the chart’s biggest climber. Their sixteenth LP, Future Teenage Cave Artists (Joyful Noise), climbs 15-9 on this week’s chart.
The long-awaited fourth LP from rapper & producer El-P and rapper and social & political activist Killer Mike is a dual-showcase artist this week as the most-added and highest debuting artist. Run The Jewels collects 65 Top 10 Adds and debuts at #31 with RTJ4 (Jewel Runners/RBC/BMG). It’s the duo’s first Top 10-peaking album on the Billboard 200 Chart as well opening at #10 this week.
The NACC 200’s biggest climb this week comes from Brooklyn, NY-based quintet, Woods. Formed in 2005, the band had a pretty continuous output of music over their first 10 albums. The three years that have passed between their tenth LP, Love Is Love, and their eleventh, Strange To Explain, is the longest between releases. The album jumps 157-36 on the NACC 200 this week and is out on frontman Jeremy Earl’s own Woodsist imprint.
With RTJ taking two of our features this week, we can spotlight another artist. Though we don’t normally feature an accomplishment from outside the NACC 200 on our Wednesday Chart Recap, something happened this week that has never happened before over on the NACC Singles Chart. Bright Eyes have three simultaneously charting singles this week. Though all of these songs may appear on their upcoming album, that album (nor its title) have been announced so all three, as of now, are stand-alone releases. “One And Done” is #20, Persona Non Grata” is #22, and “Forced Convalescence” is #26.
Van Den Broek, who records as Yellow Days, soars 13-1 on NACC Singles this week after debuting last week with “Love Is Everywhere” b/w “Treat You Right,” both from his second LP, A Day In A Yellow Beat, due August 7. Bob Mould returns with the most-added new single of the week, a new protest anthem, “American Crisis,” from his upcoming Blue Hearts LP, due September 25.
