#1 Washed Out | The NACC Charts for the week ending September 8

Round Three of the battle for the NACC 200 #1 crown between Fontaines D.C. and Washed Out has come to an end and this week’s round finally goes Washed Out‘s way. Ernest Green’s fourth LP, Purple Noon (Sub Pop), lay in wait patiently at #2 the last two weeks and fends off a fast-charge from Bully to score his first week atop the NACC 200. Washed Out also tops our Electronic and Chill Charts this week.

There are two new albums reaching the NACC Top 10 this week. Sneaks jumps 14-7. But it’s Omaha trio Bright Eyes who makes the biggest move, rising 17-9 with their first LP in nearly a decade. The band’s 10th LP, Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was (Dead Oceans/Secretly Group) also reaches #1 on the NACC Non-Comm Chart up 7-1.

Welsh electronic musician Kelly Lee Owens returns after a three-year pause (that saw her remixing music for St. Vincent and Björk) with her sophomore LP, Inner Songs. The Smalltown Supersound release opens at #27 and bests the next-highest debut on the NACC 200 by nearly 20 spots. It also debuts at #14 on the NACC Electronic Chart.

North Carolina quartet The Avett Brothers enjoys the biggest climb on the NACC 200 this week, jumping 186-30. Fronted by brothers Seth & Scott Avett (hence the band name), this release has the band recording as a trio with longtime member Bob Crawford. In addition to 10 LPs under their belt, the band has an ongoing EP series. The Third Gleam is the third in the series and their first since 2008’s The Second Gleam.

The most-added new album this week comes from Texas native Hannah Read, who records as Lomelda. Read has released four studio albums since her debut LP, Forever, in 2015. Her latest, Hannah, is her third Double Double Whammy release and sneaks out a one-add win over this week’s #2 add from Samia as well as debuting at #89.

Father John Misty leaps to #1 on NACC Singles this week with his new single “For S” b/w “For R.” He rises 5-1 there as well as leaping 141-34 on the NACC 200. Big Thief lead singer Adrianne Lenker grabs the most-added single this week with “anything,” the first music released from her upcoming dual LPs, Songs and Instrumentals, both due October 23.

The NACC Top 5 overall Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to returns to #1 on the Electronic and R&B/Soul Charts, there are new chart-toppers at NACC NEXT, NACC Non-Comm, NACC Canadian, & Jazz as well.
