Jeff Tweedy locks down #1 on the NACC 200 for a third straight week

Just a couple of days left to submit your Top 10 favorite records (Albums, EPs, and/or Singles) of 2020! We’ll compile a list and publish them on our website as part of our 2020 Year-End Recap. Head HERE to tell us your answers (DEADLINE: Friday, December 11).

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy locks down #1 on the NACC 200 for a third straight week, besting the two-week run his WARM solo LP enjoyed on top at the beginning of 2019. Love Is The King (dBpm) fends off challenges from The Mountain Goats (4-2) and Eels (6-4), who will both make another run for the top next week, the last new charts of 2020.

Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Death Valley Girls have risen 14-10. But it’s Vancouver hip-hop/electronic production duo Potatohead People (Nick Wisdom and Nate “AstroLogical” Drobner) who makes the biggest move, jumping 17-9 with Mellow Fantasy (Bastard Jazz). The album also reaches #1 on NACC Canadian this week.

Making the biggest climb into the NACC Top 20 is legendary Australian musician Nick Cave. He reached the Top 5 of the NACC 200 at the top of 2020 with Ghosteen (the best-reviewed album of 2019). His latest critically-acclaimed effort, Idiot Prayer (Nick Cave Alone At Alexandra Palace), out on Bad Seeds Ltd./AWAL, rises 35-16 this week.

The biggest move up the NACC 200 this week is made by Chicago quartet The Smashing Pumpkins. Co-founded in 1988 by Billy Corgan and James Iha, the band have released 11 LPs and scored 14 Alternative Rock Top 10s (most during their commercial heyday in the 90s). Their latest LP, CYR (Sumerian), leaps 163-22 this week.

This week’s most-added album comes from one of indie rock’s most prolific bands, Guided By Voices. Led by Robert Pollard (the band’s principal songwriter and only permanent member dating back to their inception in 1983), GVB has released thirty-two LPs, including their latest, Styles We Paid For (GVB Inc.), their third of 2020. The album joins their previous release, Mirrored Aztec, on the NACC 200 this week debuting at #180.

After first topping the NACC Singles Chart three weeks ago, The Shins return to #1 this week with “The Great Divide,” the second song they’ve taken to #1 at NACC Singles. Collecting more Top 10 Adds than any other single adding this week is super-producer, former Vampire Weekend member, and solo musician, Rostam with his covers of The Stokes “Under Control” b/w “Fairytale Of New York” (the Pogues Christmas classic).

The NACC Top 5 overall Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new chart-toppers at NACC Canadian, Heavy, and Electronic.
