Jeff Tweedy Ends 2020 on a High Note with his Fourth Solo Effort

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy ends 2020 on a high note securing a fourth straight week at #1 on the NACC 200 with his fourth solo effort, Love Is The King (dBpm). He ties Soccer Mommy and Phoebe Bridgers for the second-most weeks at #1 this year. Only Fiona Apple spent more weeks on top with her five week-run back in April and May.

Only one new record reaches the NACC Top 10 this week. Atlanta, GA via Austin, TX quartet Mamalarky jumps 13-7 with their self-titled LP (out on Fire Talk). The group includes ex-Cherry Glazerr bassist Livvy Bennett and White Denim keyboard player Michael Hunter along with drummer Dylan Hill and bassist Noor Khan.

Simultaneously taking most-added honors and scoring the week’s highest debut is Australian-duo The Avalanches and their long-awaited third album We Will Always Love You (Astralwerks). Music from the album has been landing on the NACC Charts all the way back to February. Almost a year waiting for an album from The Avalanches is small potatoes though compared to the sixteen-year gap between the group’s debut and sophomore records. We Will Always Love You grabs 67 Top 10 adds and debuts at #23 on the NACC 200 this week.

2020 has been a high-output year for Houston, TX trio Khruangbin. They started the year by releasing a collaborative EP with Leon Bridges. That was followed four months later with their third LP, Mordechai (which is still on the NACC 200). Both albums reached the Top 10 peaking at #6 and #2 respectively. Now they end the year with a DJ mix album, Late Night Tales (Night Time Stories). The album soars 199-23 this week.

All five of the week’s biggest climbers on the NACC 200 moved 100+ spots up the chart, which doesn’t often happen. The one reaching the highest position of the five comes from Tucson, AZ band Calexico. Formed in 1996 and led by Joey Burns and John Convertino, the band’s eleventh LP, Seasonal Shift (Anti-), leaps 158-15 on the NACC 200.

Rising 3-1 on NACC Singles Chart this week is Parquet Courts. Three weeks ago “Hey Bug,” a previously unreleased song they recorded back in 2014, was the most-added single of the week. This week’s most added single is “His Rope” b/w “Her Revolution.” It’s the second collaboration between Thom Yorke, Four Tet, and Burial. The first came in 2011 with the single “Ego” b/w “Mirror.”

NACC’s Top 5 overall Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to returns to #1 at NACC Non-Comm, NACC Canadian, and Electronic, there are new chart-toppers at Hip Hop, Jazz, Folk, and Latin.
