Arlo Parks continues her amazing NACC Chart-topping run

British singer-songwriter Arlo Parks continues her amazing NACC Chart-topping run this week. Her debut LP, Collapsed In Sunbeams (Transgressive/PIAS), spends a sixth week atop the NACC 200 as well as the NACC Non-Comm, NACC NEXT, and NACC Canadian Charts. We’ve never had only two chart-toppers on the NACC 200 this deep into a new year. Though we may see a third in 2021 soon as Julien Baker, who holds at #2 this week, is closing the gap on Arlo Parks. Will it be enough to overtake her next week? Watch this space.

Two bands reach the NACC Top 10 this week, both of which are no strangers to the upper echelon of the College and Community Charts. Mogwai rises 11-5, but it’s Cleveland, Ohio-based quartet Cloud Nothings looking for their second NACC 200 chart-topper with their seventh LP, The Shadow I Remember (Carpark). By moving 13-7 they score their third NACC Top 10 Album.

The NACC 200’s highest debut this week is a rare single taking this honor. Only two other artists (The Raconteurs and Kurt Vile) have ever had the highest debut on the NACC 200 with a single. St. Vincent joins those ranks this week, but can also take bragging honors as the highest debut of these three with her new single “Pay Your Way In Pain” (Loma Vista/Concord). The first song from her upcoming Daddy’s Home LP hit #22 this week.

Jilian Medford, better known as Ian Sweet, enjoys the NACC 200’s biggest climb this week with her third LP, Show Me How You Disappear (her first for Polyvinyl). The Los Angeles musician began recording under the Ian Sweet name in 2013 and released LPs in 2016 and 2018. Her latest soars form 178-20 on the NACC 200 this week.

The ubiquitous King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are back with more new music and it’s the most-added album of the week. The Australian band’s 17th LP L.W., a companion album to last November’s K.W. release (which is still #93 on the NACC 200), collects 61 Top 10 Adds and debuts at #42 on the NACC 200 this week, one of the Top 5 highest debuts of the week

St. Vincent soars 28-1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week with the first single from her upcoming Daddy’s Home LP. “Pay Your Way In Pain” also simultaneously becomes the highest-charting single on the NACC 200 this week by debuting at #22. Collecting the most Top 10 Adds for any single this week is Lucy Dacus. The boygenius group member (with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker) and solo musician is back with an ode to everyone’s favorite (and only) opposable finger. “Thumbs” is her first new music of 2021.

The NACC Top 5 overall Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new chart-toppers at Jazz, Latin, R&B/Soul, World, & Chill this week.
