Arlo Parks ties Mitski for the all-time longest #1 run

British singer-songwriter Arlo Parks‘ stronghold at #1 on the NACC 200 continues for a massive eighth straight week with her debut LP, Collapsed In Sunbeams (Transgressive/PIAS). In doing so she moves into a tie with Mitski for the all-time longest run atop the NACC 200, a record Mitski held along since 2018. Parks’s run may be coming to an end soon as this week is the least potent of her eight weeks on top and she relinquishes the top spot at NACC Non-Comm and NACC Canadian, but only time will tell.

Three albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week including Adult Mom (14-8) and Ian Sweet (18-10). But it’s Calgary, Alberta musician Chad VanGaalen who makes the biggest climb, and a most spectacular one, with his ninth LP dating back to 2001. World’s Most Stressed Out Gardener (Sub Pop) soars 148-9 on the NACC 200 this week.

The chart’s highest debut comes from Oakland, California-based duo tUne-yArDs. Formed in 2006 by Merrill Garbus, bassist and collborator Nate Brenner joined her in 2009. Their latest effort, sketchy. (4AD/Beggars Group), is their fifth LP and it opens at #28 on the NACC 200 in addition to being one of the Top 5 Adds of the week.

In a week punctuated by a number of big climbs, the biggest comes from Lo Talker. The project is a new one for longtime Roadkill Ghost Choir frontman, Andrew Shepard. Looking for a fresh start, the Athens, Georgia artist teamed up with brother and three other musicians to start this new prroject. Their debut LP, A Comedy Of Errors (Arts & Crafts), leaps 189-34 on the NACC 200 this week.

The race for most-added honors this week was a particularly close one with the Top 5 Adds all falling within six adds of one another. In the end it was Brooklyn, New York-based trio The Antlers who came out on top, besting their closest competition, Real Estate, by a single add with their sixth LP, Green To Gold (Anti-).

St. Vincent holds onto #1 on the NACC Singles Chart for a third straight week with “Pay Your Way In Pain,” the first song released from her upcoming Daddy’s Home LP due May 14. British singer Beatice Laus, better known as beabadoobee, is back with her first new music of 2021. “Last Day On Earth” is this week’s most added single and a rare Top 10 overall NACC-adding single. The song also debuts on both the NACC 200 and NACC Singles Charts this week.

The NACC Top 5 overall Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new chart-toppers at NACC Non-Comm, NACC Canadian, Jazz, Chill, Folk this week.
