St. Vincent fends off CHAI and Japanese Breakfast for her fourth week at #1

Annie Clark aka St. Vincent pins down #1 for a fourth week in a row with her sixth LP, Daddy’s Home (Loma Vista/Concord). She ties The Avalanches for the second-longest-running #1 of 2021 and, as we mentioned would be the case last week if she remained on top, joins Arlo Parks and Jeff Tweedy as the only artists to spend 10+ weeks at #1 on the NACC 200. Clark’s lead this week narrowed substantially so next week’s race for the top will be an interesting one for the first time in a few weeks.

Speaking of Japanese Breakfast, they lead three new entries into the NACC Top 10 this week. Led by musician, director, and author Michelle Launer, the band’s third LP, Jubilee (Dead Oceans/Secretly Group) was last week’s most-added new album and as well as the week’s highest debut at #14. This week they soar 14-2 with a massive point gain and a real shot at #1 next week. Also reaching the NACC Top 10 this week are Black Midi (15-6) and Mannequin Pussy (11-7).

Australian duo The Avalanches started 2021 with four weeks at #1 with their third LP, We Will Always Love You. Now they are back with a special 20th Anniversary Deluxe edition of their debut LP, Since I Left You (Astralwerks). The album doubles the tracklisting of the original album with a plethora of remixes, dubs, and demos. The album soars 165-19 on the NACC 200, landing this week’s biggest climb.

Sleater-Kinney was featured in our Wednesday NACC Chart recap earlier this year for reaching #1 on the NACC Singles Chart with “Worry With You,” the lead single from their 10th LP, Path Of Wellness (Mom+Pop). The album is their first since being whittled down to a duo of original members Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein. The album debuts at #35 on the NACC 200 this week.

The week’s most added record comes from Lynchburg, VA duo Vacation Manor. Nathan Towles and Cole Young started their band in 2016 and have released three EPs. Their self-titled debut LP (Nettwerk) was recorded during quarantine. Vacation Manor collects 46 Top 10 Adds and slides onto the NACC 200 at #162 this week.

“We Are Between” from Modest Mouse spends a fifth week at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart. A second song, “Leave A Light On,” also rises 26-22 on NACC Singles this week. Long Beach, CA quintet Cold War Kids returns with this week’s most-added single, “What You Say.” It’s the lead single from their upcoming ninth LP, New Age Norms 3, due out September 24.
