Liars seek a second week at #1

With the passing of Labor Day, the calendar unofficially flips to fall and that means a welcome influx of returning stations to the NACC reporting panel. Brooklyn-based trio Liars benefit from this increase in reporters by padding their lead over the nearest competitor and amassing the most points of any #1 on the NACC 200 since early August. The Apple Drop (Mute) is the band’s tenth LP and also reaches the Top 10 of the NACC NEXT Chart as well as making a debut on the NACC Non-Comm Chart.

Only one new album reaches the Top 10 of the NACC 200 this week. It comes from London-based duo Jungle. Formed in 2013 by childhood friends Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland, Jungle has released three LPs, including their latest, Loving In Stereo (Caiola/AWAL), which rises 12-10 on the NACC 200 this week.

Last week, North Carolina native Indigo De Souza enjoyed the most-added album of the week and we predicted a strong NACC 200 debut this week. That educated guess came to fruition in spades as her second LP, Any Shape You Take (Saddle Creek) roars onto the chart at #13, the highest debut dating back to the June 1 NACC Charts.

San Francisco five-piece Deafheaven had the second most-added LP last week and this week their fifth studio album, Infinite Granite (Sargent House) is this week’s biggest climber. The album soars 159-19. Deafheaven was first formed in 2010 by the only original band members, George Clarke and Kerry McCoy, after their grindcore band Rise Of Caligula disbanded earlier that year.

We’re starting to feel bad for the Scottish trio, We Were Promised Jetpacks. They’ve been together since 2003 and clearly, they are still waiting on said jetpacks. Hopefully scoring the most-added album of the week can act as a small consolation prize as they continue to wait. Enjoy The View (Big Scary Monsters) is the band’s fifth LP. It collects 60 Top 10 Adds.

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats were leapfrogged over last week on the NACC Singles Chart by Parquet Courts, but they have the last laugh (at least until next week), by rising 4-1 with “Survivor.” It’s lifted from their upcoming third LP, The Future, due November 5. Two songs tie for this week’s most-added single. The third advance release from Gorillaz and Blur frontman Damon Albarn‘s second solo LP, the succinctly titled, The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows (due November 12) is “Particle.” Matching Albarn for adds is Isabel Olive, who performs as Half Gringa. “Sevenwater” is Olive’s first new music since her sophomore LP release, Force To Reckon, last year.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are climbs to #1 at NACC NEXT, Heavy, Folk, World, Chill, Latin, and Jazz this week.
