Low look to score the 2nd longest #1 run of 2021

The Duluth, MN duo of Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker, who have recorded as Low dating back to 1993, spends a fifth straight week at #1 on the NACC 200 (as well as a first on NACC Canadian) with their 13th LP, HEY WHAT (Sub Pop). That ties them with Japanese Breakfast for the second-longest #1 run of 2021. The album increases ever so slightly in points this week as well as gaining a small increase in their lead over the #2 record. That being said, Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine (2-2) also increase in points over last week and will challenge for #1 again next week along with Andy Shauf (6-3).

Only one album reaches the NACC 200’s Top 10 this week Chicago-based artist Lillie West, better known to music fans as Lala Lala, rises 13-9. West’s third studio album, I Want The Door To Open (Hardly Art) becomes her second NACC Top 10-charting LP. She debuted at #9 in October of 2018 with her previous studio album, The Lamb.

Last week’s most-added release from Deerhoof becomes this week’s highest debut. The San Francisco four-piece explodes onto the NACC 200 at #18 with their 18th LP dating back to 1996. Actually, You Can (Joyful Noise) jumps aboard the chart this week marking the sixth time we’ve showcased the band in our weekly NACC Chart Recap over three albums.

Also making an impressive debut this week is the New York quartet Parquet Courts. Like Deerhoof, they are no strangers to making waves on the NACC Charts, marking their fifth appearance here over three albums. Their latest, Symphony For Life (Rough Trade) is their seventh solo LP and eighth overall including 2018’s Milano, which they recorded alongside Danielle Luppi. Their latest effort jumps aboard the NACC 200 this week at #25.

Los Angeles trio La Luz takes most-added honors with their self-titled fourth LP (Hardly Art). Led by Shana Cleveland (who we featured here in 2019 when her solo album scored most-added honors as well), La Luz was formed in 2012 in Seattle by Cleveland, Alice Sandahl, and two others who are no longer part of the band. Their new album is one of just four this year to collect 80+ Top 10 Adds.

The new single from Mitski, “Working For The Knife,” holds down #1 on the NACC Singles Chart for a second week and is one of only two singles inside the Top 50 of the NACC 200 this week. St. Paul quintet Hippo Campus has released its second single of 2021. “Boys” collects the most adds of the 42 singles that added this week and was the only one to land on the overall NACC 200 Adds Chart.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new chart-toppers this week at NACC NEXT, NACC Non-Comm, NACC Canadian, and Chill, and returns to #1 at Hip Hop, Blues, and Electronic.
