Beach House secures longest running #1 of 2022

The Baltimore duo Beach House lands a fourth straight week at #1 and does so in grand fashion, collecting more points this week than any of their three previous weeks on top. Their first week at #1 was previously the album’s best. Occupying the penthouse for a fourth week simultaneously gives them their longest-running #1 yet on the NACC 200 as well as giving them this year’s longest-running chart-topper. Their lead at #1 grows substantially again this week over the #2 record so it will be interesting to see how long this run goes.

The NACC Top 10 has been fairly static of late. Just like last week, only one new album reached the top tier. It belongs to Houston native Robert Glasper who was part of the Oscars all-star band last Sunday that also included Sheila E and Travis Barker. Glasper’s latest LP, Black Radio III, rises 12-8 on the NACC 200. It is also our current #1 on both the NACC Hip Hop (fourth week) and R&B/Soul (first week) this week. Honorable mention to Black Country New Road who rises back into the Top 10 this week as well.

Two albums reach the Top 20 of the NACC 200 this week. Widowspeak (the most-added artist from two weeks ago) rises 21-11. Also climbing into the Top 20 is UK singer/songwriter Alexander O’Connor, who records as Rex Orange County. His fourth LP, WHO CARES? (RCA), is this week’s biggest climber into the NACC Top 20, jumping from 27-15. The album also recently debuted inside the Top 5 of the Billboard 200.

This week’s highest debut comes from Atlanta-based band Mattiel. Fronted by Mattiel Brown and produced by the band’s guitarist, Jonah Swilley, Mattiel has released three LPs including the latest, Georgia Gothic (ATO). The album (last week’s #3 add) debuted at #34 on the NACC 200 this week opening a spot higher than Yumi Zouma, last week’s most-added artist.

Vancouver, BC seven-piece Destroyer, led by Dan Bejar since they formed in 1995, is back. Bejar is also a longtime member of The New Pornographers. Destroyer’s 13th album is called LABYRINTHITIS (Merge) and is this week’s most added with 75 Top 10 Adds. The last time we featured the band here was in 2020 when their previous LP, Have We Lost, was also the week’s most added record.

The Black Keys holds firm at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week with “Wild Child,” the lead single from their upcoming 11th LP, Dropout Boogie, due May 13. The song also rises 29-19 on the NACC 200. Scoring one of the biggest add weeks ever for a single is Soccer Mommy. “Shotgun” collects a massive 65 Top 10 Adds. It’s the lead single from her forthcoming third LP, Sometimes, Forever, due June 24.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at Jazz, & R&B/Soul as well as a return to #1 at NACC Canadian.
