UK sensation Wet Leg logs a third week at #1 on the NACC 200

UK sensation Wet Leg built excitement over the better part of a year for their eponymous debut LP (Domino) with their buzzy “Chaise Lounge” and then subsequent preview single after single. It led to a NACC Top 10 debut and an immediate jump to #1 the following week. This week the soggy appendage lovers log a third week at #1 not only on the NACC 200 but at NACC NEXT & NACC Non-Comm as well. They have a comfortable lead over Father John Misty (2-2) on the NACC 200, but he does chip away at their lead this week.

Three albums make hefty climbs into the NACC Top 10 this week. Last week’s highest debut from Spiritualized zips 18-10. But two albums overtake them after also debuting on the NACC 200 last week. Ubiquitous College & Community presence, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard races 28-7 with their 20th LP, Omnium Gatherum (out on their own KGLW imprint). It’s their second LP of 2022. Since forming in 2010, it’s the seventh time the Aussie outfit has released multiple albums in one year, though 2017 still reigns as their most active year with five… count them, five LPs.

Also reaching the NACC Top 10 this week and making the biggest move into the top tier is Dublin quintet Fontaines D.C. They are a true NACC band with all three of their LPs garnering features on our NACC Wednesday Recap. That includes their last LP, A Hero’s Death, which spent three weeks at #1 in 2020. Their latest, Skinty Fia (Partisan), roars 37-5 this week. Super fun fact: skinty fia translates to “the damnation of the deer.”

Honorable mention this week goes to Phoebe Bridgers. Her new single “Sidelines” is the NACC 200’s biggest climber, rising 172-47.

In any given week, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard would hands-down win the award for most creative/weird band name on our NACC Recap. They have serious competition this week though, with fellow Aussie six-piece Psychedelic Porn Crumpets giving them a run for their money. Their new LP, Night Gnomes (Marathon), leaps aboard the NACC 200 this week at #25. Though they’ve been together since 2014 and released five LPs, this is the first time we’ve had the opportunity to feature the Perth-based band here.

It’s apparently a great week be an Aussie psychedelic septet or a female duo. That designation encompasses 80% of our five features. Joining Wet Leg in our duo designation is Los Angeles’ Girlpool. Avery Tucker and Harmony Tividad have been together since 2013 and have released four LPs including their latest, Forgiveness (Anti-). It’s their third straight album to score the most Top 10 Adds of the week. The album debuts at #84 on the NACC 200 this week and hopes to follow their previous two LPs to #1.

Soccer Mommy likes being at #1 and she doesn’t want to share. “The Shotgun” spends a fifth straight week at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart. It is the lead single from her forthcoming third LP, Sometimes, Forever, due June 24. Two titans of College & Community Radio (having both topped the big chart previously), return this week and tie for ‘Most-Added Single’ honors. Toronto quartet Metric is back with “All Comes Crashing.” It’s the first single from their upcoming eighth LP, Formentera, due July 8. Also back at it is Chicago six-piece Wilco. “Falling Apart (Right Now)” previews their 12th LP, Cruel Country, due May 27.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There is a new #1 at Latin and returns to #1 at NACC Canadian, R&B/Soul, and Blues.
