Wilco locks down #1 on the NACC 200 for a second week

Chicago six-piece Wilco locks down #1 on the NACC 200 for a second week with their 12th LP, Cruel Country (dBpm). By spending another week at #1, lead singer Jeff Tweedy has now spent a cumulative 12 weeks at #1 on the NACC 200 with his combined solo and Wilco #1s. That ties Arlo Parks (who spent a record 12 weeks at #1 with her debut LP, Collapsed In Sunbeams, in 2021) for the most weeks ever atop the chart.

Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Chicago trio Horsegirl leaps 19-10 for the biggest climb into the top tier of the chart. Versions Of Modern Performance (Matador) is their debut LP following their 2020 EP, Horsegirl: Ballroom Dance Scene. The trio of Nora Cheng, Penelope Lowenstein, and Gigi Reece are currently on a European tour that wraps July 3 in Rotterdam. They launch a North American tour soon after on July 15 in Vancouver.

Also reaching the Top 10 this week is a recent most-added album from another artist that hails from Chicago: Andrew Bird. He’s seeking his second NACC 200 #1 following 2019’s My Finest Work Yet and hops ahead 12-8 on the chart this week with his 14th solo LP, Inside Problems (Loma Vista/Concord). The album also hits a new peak (#6) on NACC Non-Comm and debuts at #17 on NACC NEXT this week.

The NACC 200’s biggest climb this week comes from Torrance, CA trio Joyce Manor. Formed in 2008, the band has released six LPs including its latest, 40 Oz. To Fresno (Epitaph). The gap between this LP and their last is four years, their longest gap between releases. The band’s name comes from an apartment building next to lead singer and founding member Barry Johnson’s home.

Honorable mention this week goes to Greek singer ΣTELLA (Stella) who enjoys the NACC 200’s highest debut at #44. But our fifth feature goes to this week’s most-added artist. London-based quartet TV Priest collects 50 Top 10 Adds with their sophomore LP, My Other People (Sub Pop). We first featured them in early 2021 when their debut LP, Uppers, reached the NACC 200’s Top 10. We imagine they’ll be back there soon based on the strong showing of their album this week.

NYC trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs enjoys a second week at #1 on NACC Singles this week building in overall points and their lead over the #2 single. “Spitting Off The Edge Of The World” features Perfume Genius and is the first preview of their forthcoming fifth LP, Cool It Down, due September 30. Previous NACC 200 chart-topper Julia Jacklin is back with a second preview single from her forthcoming third LP, Pre Pleasure, due August 26. “I Was Neon” is the most-added single and rare Top 10 overall single add this week.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at NACC Canadian, Blues, Hip Hop, Chill, Latin, and World this week.
