Wilco defends their crown for a third straight week

It was a down-to-the-wire battle for #1 this week between Wilco and Cola, but in the end, Wilco defended their crown and spent a third week at #1 on the NACC 200 with their 12th LP, Cruel Country (dBpm). By spending another week at #1, lead singer Jeff Tweedy has now spent a cumulative 13 weeks at #1 on the NACC 200 with his combined solo and Wilco #1s. That makes him the artist with the most weeks ever atop the NACC 200. If Cola can maintain their momentum from this week they should overtake Wilco on the next chart. But will someone else overtake them by then? Watch this space.

Just one new album reaches the NACC Top 10 this week. It’s a record we featured here last week as it was the NACC 200’s overall biggest climber. The album is the sixth LP for Torrance, CA trio Joyce Manor. 40 Oz. To Fresno (Epitaph) continues its hit streak this week, racing from 16-8. Honorable mention goes to Fontaines DC, who rebound back into the NACC Top 10 this week, up 11-10 with an album that earlier reached #3.

Following close behind Joyce Manor is the second biggest climber within the Top 20 this week. It comes from the multi-faceted musician and producer Adrian Quesada. Born in Laredo, TX, Quesada was a member of the Grammy award-winning Group Fantasma. He is also currently a member of Black Pumas and has over 150 producing credits to his name. His latest effort, Boleros Psicodélicos, jumps 19-13 on the NACC 200 and also tops the NACC World and Latin Charts this week.

This week’s biggest climb into the NACC Top 20 comes from Bartees Leon Cox, Jr., who records as Bartees Strange. Born in England but raised in the US, Cox was a member of the band Stay Inside from 2016-2018. He released his first solo music in 2017. His latest effort, Farm To Table (4AD) is his second LP, and races from 62-20 on this week’s chart.

Sophie Allison, aka Soccer Mommy, is back with her third LP, Sometimes, Forever (Loma Vista/Concord). The album collects 81 Top 10 Adds this week (the most for any record since April) and scores the chart’s highest debut of the week at #18. That certainly bodes well for Allison as this new release has some giant shoes to fill. Her previous two LPs both topped the NACC 200 for four weeks. She’s off to a very strong start, and we are predicting she’ll be challenging Wilco and Cola for #1 on the next NACC 200.

NYC trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs grabs a third week at #1 on NACC Singles this week with “Spitting Off The Edge Of The World.” The song features Perfume Genius and is the first preview of their forthcoming fifth LP, Cool It Down, due September 30. Two songs tie for ‘most-added single’ honors this week. Sloan Struble, who records as Dayglow, has just released the first single, “Then It All Goes Away,” from his upcoming fourth LP, People In Motion, due October 7. And beloved Canadian band The Sadies also enjoys a most-added single with “Stop And Start,” another preview of their soon-to-be-released 14th LP, Colder Streams, due July 22.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to returns to #1 at Hip Hop, Chill, and Blues. there are new #1s at World and Jazz this week.
