Soccer Mommy pins down a second week at #1

Sophie Allison, who records as Soccer Mommy, pins down a second week at #1 on the NADC 200 with her third LP, Sometimes, Forever (Loma Vista/Concord). All three of Soccer Mommy’s LPs have now spent multiple weeks at #1. Her cumulative tenth week at #1 helps her become just the fifth artist to enjoy 10 or more weeks at the top. She joins Ty Segall and St Vincent for third place right behind Mitski (with 11 weeks) and Arlo Parks (with 12). Her album also spends another week inside the Top 3 of NACC NEXT and rises into the Top 10 of the NACC Non-Comm Chart.

No new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. The two biggest climbers within the Top 10 come from Momma and Metric, who both storm into the Top 3, both up six positions and mere points apart. As we’ve already featured Momma’s album multiple times already and Metric just once, Metric get our nod this week. The Toronto quartet’s eighth LP leaps 9-3 on the NACC 200. Formentera (Thirty Tigers) also spends a second week at #1 on NACC NEXT and rises into the NACC Non-Comm Top 10, up 15-8. Look for Momma and Metric to give Soccer Mommy a run for #1 next week.

California native Steve Lacy enjoys the week’s biggest climb into the current NACC Top 20. Known as the guitarist for the band The Internet, Lacy has also released two solo albums, including his latest, Gemini Rights (RCA). His 104-16 leap is also one of the NACC 200’s Top 5 overall climbs this week. The album also landed him his first Top 10 on the Billboard 200 Chart this week debuting at #7 and he stands just outside the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10 with lead single “Bad Habits.”

The highest debuting album on the NACC 200 this week marks the return of the beloved Athens, GA quintet, Elf Power. Formed in 1994, the band is part of the famed Elephant Six Collective (which also includes Of Montreal, The Apples In Stereo, Neutral Milk Hotel, Dressy Bessy, and Beulah, among others). Elf Power’s 14th LP, Artificial Countrysides (Yep Roc) is their first since 2017. The album leaps aboard the NACC 200 at #26.

Honorable mention this week goes to Death Cab For Cutie, whose new single, “Here To Forever” makes the biggest climb on the NACC 200, up 189-39.

Most-added honors were a frenzy this week with the Top 3 albums coming within two Top 10 Adds for #1. When the dust settled Toronto quartet The Sadies, formed in 1994, came out on top. The band’s 11th LP, Colder Streams (Yep Roc) collected the most Top 10 Adds and features Jon Spencer and Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry, who also produced the record. Recorded just before the tragic death of Dallas Good, who fronted The Sadies with his brother Travis, Colder Streams has been met with massively positive critical praise and is currently inside the Top 20 on Metacritic’s list of the best-reviewed albums of 2022.

Toronto-based five-piece Alvvays holds off a fast-charging Death Cab For Cutie and nabs a second-week #1 on NACC Singles this Week with “Pharmacist,” the first single from their upcoming third LP, Blue Rev, due out October 7. Australian duo Hockey Dad lands this week’s most-added new single with “T’s To Cross,” their first new music since 2020s Brain Candy LP.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to a return to #1 at NACC Canadian, there are new #1s at Heavy, Latin, and Blues this week.
