LA-duo, Momma, rises 2-1 on the NACC 200 to score their first #1

Cue all of your favorite ‘Yo Momma’ jokes. The battle of the moms raged on the NACC 200 this week. After two weeks of Soccer Mommy enjoying the top spot, the baton is passed to another mom of sorts. The Los Angeles duo of Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten, who record as Momma, rises 2-1 on the NACC 200 to score their very first #1 on the chart. Household Name (Polyvinyl) is their third studio album and it’s now in the upper reaches of the NACC NEXT (7-2) and NACC Non-Comm (20-5) Charts as well.

Three new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Viagra Boys rises 12-9 and even more impressively, Beabadoobee jumps 11-4. But the biggest climb into the NACC 200’s Top 10 comes from last week’s most-added artist: The Sadies. The Vancouver troubadours have released 11 LPs including their latest, Colder Streams (Dine Alone/Yep Roc), and are enjoying bigger success than ever before. That success is bittersweet with the loss of band member Dallas Good just after the recording of their album. In addition to climbing 32-10 on the NACC 200 this week, they climb 10-5 at NACC Canadian and score the highest debut of the week on NACC Folk, at #5.

After enjoying a Top 5 overall NACC Add last week, Tallahassee quartet Pool Kids explode onto the NACC 200 this week at #19 with their self-titled sophomore LP (Skeletal Lightning). It follows their 2018 debut Music To Practice Safe Sex To and was a bit delayed when after nearly finishing recording, the band’s basement studio flooded destroying their equipment and damaging their recordings. It wasn’t the kind of pool the kids were after, but they picked themselves up, dried themselves off, and got back to work. The result is one of just a handful of albums to debut inside the Top 20 this summer.

Making this week’s biggest climb is Ty Segall. No stranger to our weekly chart recap, Segall has been featured here over a dozen times and was the first artist to amass three NACC 200 #1s. His 14th LP, “Hello, Hi” (Drag City) leaps 169-41 on the chart this week as he looks to tie Jeff Tweedy (solo and with Wilco) for the most #1s the NACC 200 has seen.

Collecting the most Top 10 Adds this week is the Athens, GA band Of Montreal. Started by Kevin Barnes in 1996, the group has featured more than 20 other musicians over the years. Their 18th album, Freewave Lucifer Fck (Polyvinyl) grabs 49 Top 10 Adds and should make a splashy NACC 200 debut next week in their quest for their second NACC 200 chart-topper.

Toronto-based five-piece Alvvays enjoys a third-straight week at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart with “Pharmacist,” the first single from their upcoming third LP, Blue Rev, due out October 7. Melbourne, Australia trio Clamm takes ‘most-added single’ honors with the second single (“Monday”) from their upcoming sophomore LP, Care, due August 19.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to returns to #1 at NACC Canadian and Latin, there are new #1s at NACC Non-Comm, Folk, Heavy, Blues, Electronic, and World.
