Kiwi Jr. climbs 3-1 to nab their very first week atop the NACC 200

The reign of Soccer Mommy has come to an end. Her run at the top came up one week short of tying Wet Leg for the longest stay #1 of 2022, but was long enough to give her the all-time record for most weeks at #1 (14) on the NACC 200. Climbing 3-1 this week to nab their very first week atop the chart is Canadian quartet, Kiwi Jr. The Toronto outfit has released three LPs: their debut, Football Money in 2020, Cooler Returns (which allowed us to feature the band for the first time when it was the most-added album of the week in January of 2021), and now, Chopper (Sub Pop). The album is the 14th #1 of the year. We have it on good authority that Kiwi Sr. is bursting with pride.

Only one new album reaches the NACC Top 10 this week. It comes from The Mountain Goats. We featured their new album, Bleed Out (Merge), here two weeks ago when it was the most-added album of the week. Since then it’s raced up the NACC 200 climbing 13-9 this week. Their latest effort is their 21st studio album dating back to their debut, Zopilote Machine in 1994. This is the band’s third NACC Top 10-peaking album.

The only new album reaching the NACC Top 5 this week comes from Durham, NC’s Sylvan Esso. Formed in 2013, the duo has released four LPs, three of which fall into NACC’s history. All three of them have reached the NACC Top 10 including their previous LP, Free Love, which reached #1 in November of 2020. This week their third LP, No Rules Sandy (Loma Vista/Concord) moves two steps closer to earning them their second chart-topper, as it rises 6-4.

San Francisco five-piece Osees, led by John Dwyer since 1997, is back with their 26th LP, A Foul Form (Castle Face). Over the years they’ve released albums as OCS, The Ohsees, The Oh Sees, Thee Oh Sees, Oh Sees, and for their three latest releases, Osees. With A Foul Form, Osees is in search of their second NACC 200 chart-topper. Making the highest debut of the week at #24 is certainly a promising start to the journey.

Sydney, Australia native Julia Jacklin collects more Top 10 Adds this week than anyone else with her third LP, PRE RELEASE (Polyvinyl). In a recent interview, Jacklin mentioned Celine Dion as a psychological ‘spiritual guide’ of sorts for the album. Though you won’t hear anything akin to “My Heart Will Go On” or “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” on Jacklin’s new record, she credits the Canadian chanteuse in helping her not take herself too seriously or put boundaries around how her music needs to sound. The results seem to be pleasing programmers at College & Community Radio as the album also scores the biggest climb on the NACC 200 this week, racing 184-20.

New York City trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs grabs a third week atop the NACC Singles Chart this week with “Burning,” the second NACC Singles Chart-topper released from their upcoming Cool It Down LP, out September 30. They now have six cumulative weeks atop the NACC Singles Chart this year, more than any other artist. English quartet Arctic Monkeys are back with the first single from their forthcoming seventh LP, The Car, due October 21. “There’d Better Be A Mirror Ball” is a rare Top 10 overall adding single and has already debuted at #5 this week on the NACC Singles Chart.

The current Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to returns to #1 on Folk and R&B/Soul, there are new #1s at NACC NEXT, Chill, Electronic, and World.
