Canadian quartet Kiwi Jr. lands a second straight week at #1

Canadian quartet Kiwi Jr. lands a second straight week at #1 on the NACC 200 this week with their third LP, Chopper (Sub Pop). Formed in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in 2015, the band has since relocated to Toronto, Ontario. Their latest studio album is produced by Wolf Parade’s Dan Boeckner. This week the band opens up just a bit of breathing room, more than doubling their point total over the next album on the chart.

Only one new album reaches the NACC Top 10 this week. It comes from last week’s most added record, PRE RELEASE (Polyvinyl), from Aussie artist Julia Jacklin. This is Jacklin’s third LP and interestingly enough, it makes an identical climb into the Top 10 that her previous album, Crushing, did in 2019, rising 20-7. That album went on to reach #1 two weeks later. Will the same fate be granted to this album? Only time will tell!

Reaching the Top 5 this week is Panda Bear & Sonic Boom. Their Domino release, Reset, has been methodically climbing the NACC 200 ever since it debuted. This week it advances 8-5 in its third week inside the Top 10. Panda Bear is American musician Noah Lennox, here paired up with English singer and producer Peter Kember, who records as Sonic Boom. This is Panda Bear’s ninth LP and Sonic Boom’s third.

Making the biggest climb into the NACC Top 20 this week is Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club. The band formed in 2007 and first hit the College and Community Charts back in 2010 with their debut LP Tourist History. Four subsequent LPs have followed including their latest, Keep On Smiling (Glassnote), which this week races ahead 53-15 on the NACC 200. The band opens a string of US tour dates beginning October 28 in Richmond, VA.

Simultaneously taking most-added honors and landing the NACC 200’s highest debut this week is longtime indie favorites Built To Spill. Led by Boise, ID native Doug Martsch, the band formed in 1992 and has released 10 LPs, including their recent NACC Top 10 tribute album, Built to Spill Plays the Songs of Daniel Johnston. When The Wind Forgets Your Name (Sub Pop) is the band’s first album of all new material in seven years. It collects 65 Top 10 Adds and hops aboard the NACC 200 this week at #40.

Honorable mention this week goes to Steve Lacy, who moves back into the NACC Top 10, up 12-10, as well as Brooklyn musician Zannie, who makes the biggest climb on the NACC 200 up 199-117.

Last week’s most-added single from English quartet Arctic Monkeys leaps straight to #1 on NACC Singles this week. “There’d Better Be A Mirror Ball” is pulled from the band’s forthcoming seventh LP, The Car, due October 21, are rises 5-1 this week. French quartet Phoenix lands this week’s most-added new single, “Tonight,” which features Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig. It comes from their newly announced seventh studio album, Alpha Zulu, which comes out November 4.

The current Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to a return to #1 on Chill, there are new #1s at NACC Non-Comm, Folk, and R&B/Soul.
