How long have you been at WCXS? What is your history there?

I have overseen the development of our radio station in various forms over the last 14 years.

What are you most proud of accomplishing or changing at WCXS?

My favorite moments are when I see how well some of our former staffers have done after graduation.  Some have went on to work for various labels and promotion companies.  Others have went on to work in media and we’ve even had some go on to successful recording careers (i.e. Whethan)

How would you say a high school radio station like WCXS differs from a college radio one?

I cannot speak for all high school stations, but ours is run as an extra-curricular with a limited window for production.  Our shows are primarily pre-produced due to time constraints – as opposed to when I was doing college radio when we primarily did live shows.

What do you love most/dislike most about Chicago?

Love = culture, music venues (Thalia Hall is my FAVORITE and a must-see), and the food.  Dislike = traffic and parking

What artist/band are you most excited about who is supposed to release new music in 2018?

I recently received word that Caravan Palace is in the process of recording and hoping for a fall release.  If this is the case this will be my most anticipated of 2018.

Do you have a favorite artist or album you never get tired of listening to?

I’m originally a hard rock guy and my favorite artist of all time is Alice Cooper.  His sound transcends decades and the album Hey Stoopid, from the early 90s, never grows old for me.  If we’re looking for something more recent you can’t go wrong with Beck – Colors

What is your favorite live show you have ever attended?

Caravan Palace – such an unforgettable, fun, high energy show.

What is your best childhood memory?

Spending time talking with my great-grandmother.  She was born in 1896 and grew up in Chicago – I was fascinated by all of the stories she would tell about growing up in the City.  Even as a young pup, I knew this was living history.

If you could choose, what time period in the past would you most want to travel back to and visit?

The 1920s – I love the fashion, music, and the carefree attitude that is often portrayed.

Do you have a favorite restaurant in town you always make sure to take guests/visitors to?

350 Brewing Company in Tinley Park, IL.  Awesome indie/punk atmosphere with great food and drinks.

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?

Accept your past with no regrets, handle your present with confidence, and face your future with no fear.
