Beach House becomes just the second in 2022 to score multiple weeks at #1

Of the seven NACC 200 chart toppers this year, Beach House becomes just the second to score multiple weeks at #1. Their eighth LP, Once Twice Melody (Sub Pop), spends a second week atop the chart this week. If they can stay at #1 next week, they’ll match the #1 run their previous LP, 7, enjoyed in 2018. Although they lost points from last week (which may simply be due to spring break on many campuses), there are no immediate challengers for #1. Should Beach House stay on top of the NACC 200 next week they’ll also tie Mitski for the longest #1 run of the young year.

Three new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. The biggest comes from last week’s most-added artist, English singer Nilufer Yanya. After debuting on the NACC 200 last week at #47, her third LP, PAINLESS (ATO), soars to #9 and gives Yanya three straight Top 10 LPs on the chart, a perfect record for her three LPs. Also reaching the Top 10: Superchunk (18-8) and Sasami (12-10).

With this week’s highest debut being the lowest we’ve seen dating back to December of 2020, we’ll focus on this week’s two biggest climbers. But congrats to Charlotte Adigery & Bolis Pupul for that #57 debut. Making the biggest climb on the NACC 200 this week is the nearly ubiquitous Guided By Voices. The Dayton, OH band led by Robert Pollard has been making music since 1983. Crystal Nuns Cathedral (GVB Inc.) is the band’s 35th LP and sixth since 2020. It zips from 152-33 on the current NACC 200.

Making the second biggest climb on the chart this week and leaping 141-27 is Seattle five-piece Band Of Horses. Formed in 2004 by Ben Bridwell, the band has just released their sixth LP, Things Are Great (BMG). The album is their first since 2016 and reviewers are hailing it as a back-to-basics return that made their first two albums so appealing.

Enjoying most-added honors this week is Brooklyn’s Widowspeak. The band’s origins date back to 2010 when original members Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas first got things going. Over the years the band have released six LPs, including their latest, The Jacket (Captured Tracks). It’s a dominant and impressive add week too with the album collecting 30 more Top 10 adds than the #2 record on this week’s NACC 200 Adds Chart. The album also debuts on the NACC 200 at #107.

Arlo Parks enjoys a fifth week in-a-row at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week with “Softly.” Her lead over the #2 single has nearly evaporated, so it’s quite possible we’ll have a new #1 next week. One of those challengers (along with last week’s most added single from Wet Leg) is this week’s most-added single from The Black Keys. “Wild Child” is the lead single from their upcoming 11th LP, Dropout Boogie, due May 13. It’s a rare overall Top 5 add on the NACC 200 Adds Chart this week.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at NACC NEXT, NACC Canadian, World, Jazz, Blues, R&B/Soul, & Chill.
