Beach House secure a third week at #1 with their eighth LP

Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally, who have recorded together as Beach House since 2004, handily secure a third week at #1, with their eighth LP, Once Twice Melody (Sub Pop). Their lead over the #2 record on the NACC 200 nearly doubles from last week. By spending a third week on top they accomplish two things: they tie Mitski for the longest run at #1 so far this year. Also, they match the three-week chart-topping run of their previous LP, 2018’s 7. They now have the seventh most #1 appearances of all-time on the NACC 200.

Just one album reaches the NACC Top 10 this week. It comes from English electronic five-piece Metronomy, who rises 14-10 with their seventh studio album, Small World (Because). Several weeks ago we featured the band when they enjoyed the biggest climb of the week on the NACC 200. They also climb 26-16 on the NACC Electronic Chart.

Two albums reside inside the NACC Top 10 this week and gain points from their previous week’s performance. They are the only records gaining that we have yet to feature on the NACC Wednesday Chart Recap. The first is from Welsh singer Cate Le Bon. She’s at #6 on the NACC 200 with her seventh LP, Pompeii (Mexican Summer). Her previous LP, Reward, debuted at #6, one of the highest debuts ever on the NACC 200, and went on to #1.

Rising 10-7 this week is the Los Angeles musician Sasami Ashworth, who simply records as Sasami. Her second LP, SQUEEZE (Domino), is her second NACC 200 Top 10-peaking album. Her debut album, Sasami, reached the Top 5 of the chart back in 2019. Honorable mention goes to The Districts, who make the biggest climb of the week, up 141-32.

Christchurch quartet Yumi Zouma is back with their fourth LP, Present Tense. It’s the band’s second on Polyvinyl. The New Zealanders formed in 2014 and also have three EPs under their belts. Their previous LP was released in 2020, just one day before The WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic. It cut their first North American tour to just one solitary show. Their latest effort collects 57 Top 10 Adds, 20 more than the #2 add.

The Black Keys explodes onto multiple NACC charts this week with “Wild Child,” the lead single from their upcoming 11th LP, Dropout Boogie, due May 13. The song debuts at #29 on the NACC 200, the highest debut of the week, and debuts at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart as well. Collecting more Top 10 Adds than any other single this week is Andrew Bird. His new song, “Atomized,” narrowly bests newly-released singles from The Happy Fits and Sudan Archives for ‘most-added single’ honors.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at Jazz, Heavy, & Blues as well as returns to #1 at NACC Non-Comm, NACC Canadian, World, R&B/Soul, & Chill.
