#1 Beck | The final NACC Charts for 2019!

A year-end recap is forthcoming, but these are the last weekly charts of 2019. It’s been a great year of music and we’ve been thrilled to help quantify the cream of the crop. We’ll be back to do it all over again January 8 with our first chart recap of 2020. In the meantime, we wish you the happiest of holidays!

It’s the last week of new NACC charts and the year wraps with a brand new NACC 200 chart topper, the 24th of the year. It is the second NACC 200 #1 for Bek David Campbell, who records as Beck. He began his musical career in 1989 and his breakthrough came via the first single (“Loser”) from his debut major label LP (Mellow Gold, his third LP overall). The song reached the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 and hit #1 on the Alternative Rock Chart. Since then eleven LPs, eight Alternative radio Top 10s, and seven Grammy’s have followed. His latest LP, Hyperspace (Capitol Records), rises 4-1 this week.

The last new album to reach the NACC Top 10 this year comes from Portland, OR quartet The Chromatics. Their seventh LP, Closer To Grey, is their first in seven years. The band had recorded an entirely different LP called Dear Tommy that was never released after member Johnny Jewel destroyed all physical copies of the record following a near death experience in 2015. Closer To Grey (out on Italians Do It Better) rises 11-10 this week.

Luke Lalonde, the lead singer of Ontario quartet Born Ruffians, enjoys the highest debut on the NACC 200 this week with his sophomore solo release, The Perpetual Optimist. It’s been seven years since Lalonde’s debut solo LP, Rhythymnals, though his band’s fifth LP was released just last year. The Perpetual Optimist is out on Paper Bag Records and debuts at #48 on the NACC 200 this week.

Making the biggest move up the chart this week is a compilation we mentioned first just last week. 30th Century Records, Vol. 2. contains music from the label’s roster including St. Francis Hotel, Sam Cohen, Adam Green, and Husky Loops among others. The album leaps 166-57 on the latest NACC 200, and is just the second compilation to take ‘biggest mover’ honors on the chart.

Animal Collective co-founder David Michael Portner, who records on his own as Avey Tare, collects more Top 10 Adds than any other artist adding this week. We’ve featured Avey Tare twice before as his last two releases (2017’s Eucalyptus and 2019’s Cows On Hourglass Pond) both scored the highest debut of the week. He ends the year with an EP whose title is an avian-lovers dream: Confidence Of Birds/Birds In Disguise.

The most-added single last week from Maggie Rogers, “Love You For A Long Time,” rises 2-1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week. Two singles tie for most-added honors: Canadian trio Caveboy with “I Wonder,” from their debut LP out January 31, Night In The Park, Kiss In The Dark, and UK trio Shopping with “Initiative” from their upcoming fourth LP, All Or Nothing, due February 7.

The NACC Top 20, the Top 5 overall NACC Adds, all of this week’s #1 genre releases, and most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at Latin and Chill.
