#1 Beck | The first NACC Charts for 2020 are live!

Let us be one of the very last to wish you and yours a Happy New Year!
NACC has returned after our usual holiday hiatus and just below,
you will see who has started the year at #1 on all of our charts.

Starting 2020 just as he ended 2019 is an artist who is no stranger to College and Community radio: Beck. He teamed up with Pharrell Williams, who co-produced the majority of Beck’s fourteenth LP, Hyperspace (Capitol Records). He holds down the top spot on the NACC 200 for a second week.

Four albums reach the first NACC Top 10 of the year. Of special note is Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, who take the lengthiest climb ever to the Top 10 on the NACC 200, rising 11-5 in their 10th week on the chart. Coldplay (17-7) and DJ Shadow (15-10) also reach the top tier of the chart. But it’s North London trio Girl Ray who makes the biggest climb, jumping 31-8 with their sophomore release, Girl, out on Moshi Moshi Records.

After releasing two LPs, Alabama singer-songwriter Caroline Sallee aka Caroline Says returns with an EP called Ohio River. Now based in Austin, TX, Sallee’s Western Vinyl release leaps aboard the NACC 200 at #39 as the highest debut of the week.

Clearly shaping up to be one of the most-anticipated releases of the young new year, UR FUN from Of Montreal comes out January 17. It’s the band’s sixteenth LP and their eleventh album on Polyvinyl. The [Advance Tracks] version on the album leaps 187-54 on the NACC 200 this week. It’s just the fourth album not yet out to take biggest-climber honors.

Growing up outside Philadelphia, Devon Gilfillian moved to Nashville to pursue music and released his debut EP in 2016. Black Hole Rainbow, his debut LP (out on Capitol Records) is the most-added album of the week and comes out just ahead of a tour with Grace Potter that starts tonight in Charleston, SC.

NYC band Nada Surf rise to #1 on the NACC Singles Chart with the first single (“Something I Should Do”) from their upcoming ninth album, Never Not Together, due out February 7. José James lands the most-added single this week with “I Need Your Love” from his upcoming thematic sequel to 2013’s album No Beginning No End.

The NACC Top 20, the Top 5 overall NACC Adds, all of this week’s #1 genre releases, and most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at NACC Canadian, Heavy, Jazz, and Chill as well as a return to #1 at Latin.
