#1 Chicano Batman | NACC Charts for the week ending June 16

Turnover near the top of the NACC 200 this week picked up with two albums climbing from outside the Top 10 into the Top 5 this week. In the end, L.A. band Chicano Batman held for a third straight week at #1 on the NACC 200 with their fourth LP, Invisible People (ATO Records). They also rose 2-1 on NACC NEXT. They have their work cut out for them securing a fourth week on top as they have a challenger that soared 31-2 on the NACC 200 this week…

That huge 31-2 jump comes from last week’s most-added and highest-debuting release. Killer Mike and El-P together make music as Run The Jewels. Their fourth LP, cleverly named RTJ4 (Jewel Runners/RBC/BMG), is just the second album to climb from outside the Top 30 into the Top 2 this year and also rises to #1 at NACC Hip Hop this week. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever (11-4) and Moses Sumney (rebounding 13-10 after reaching #9 two weeks ago) also rise into the Top 10 this week.

The NACC 200’s highest debut this week comes from Cambridge, England band Sports Team. The six-member outfit’s debut LP, Deep Down Happy (Bright Antenna), leaps aboard the chart this week at #26. Formed in 2016, one of the band’s members, Henry Young, left his day job as a sports journalist for CNN when he could no longer balance the two worlds. Something he says he has no regrets about.

This week’s biggest mover on the NACC 200 comes from Chicago-based duo Ohmme. Started in 2014 by high school friends Sima Cunningham and Macie Stewart, Ohmme recently released their sophomore LP, Fantasizing Your Ghost, out on Joyful Noise. The album leaps from 161-30 on the NACC 200 this week.

It’s always fun when we have a ‘NACC first’ and that happens this week. There have been four times where two records tied for most-added honors over the years but never three! That occurs for the first time this week with three albums collecting an identical number of Top 10 Adds. English musician Stephen James Wilksinson (who records as Bibio) is one of them with his 11th LP, Sleep On A Wing (Warp). Indie darlings Built To Spill are back as well with their first new album in five years, a tribute to their late friend, musician Daniel Johnston, who they backed on his final tour. Built To Spill Plays The Songs Of Daniel Johnston (Ernest Jenning) also shared the honor. Finally, Australian musician Jay Watson (who is a member of Tame Impala and Pond) places his fifth release, Out In The World (Spinning Top), in the three-way tie as well. Proving it doesn’t have to just be something you find hardened under a desk on the bottom of your shoe, he records under the moniker GUM.

Last week’s most-added single explodes onto the NACC Singles Chart this week at #1. It’s the lead single from Bob Mould‘s upcoming protest album, Blue Hearts, due September 25. “American Crisis” (Merge) debuts at #1 this week. Nashville band Bully returns to score this week’s most-added single. “Where To Start” (Sub Pop) is the first taste of their upcoming third LP, SUGAREGG, due August 21.

The NACC Top 5 overall NACC Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at NACC NEXT & Hip Hop as well as returns to #1 at NACC Non-Comm, Jazz, and Folk.
