#1 Chicano Batman | The NACC Charts for the Week Ending June 2

Chicano Batman ends Fiona Apple’s impressive five week stint at #1 this week and lands their first NACC 200 chart-topper with Invisible People (ATO Records). The LA-based band of Eduardo Arenas, Carlos Arévalo, Bardo Martinez, and Gabriel Villa (all original members) formed in 2008 and their fourth LP rises 2-1 on the big chart this week.

Four artists rise into the NACC Top 10 this week: Thao & The Get Down Stay Down jumps 17-7, Diet Cig moves 11-8, and STRFKR climbs 13-9. But it’s San Bernadino, CA native Moses Sumney (now based in Asheville, NC) who makes the biggest climb into the top tier with his sophomore LP, græ. The Jagjaguwar release leaps 29-10 this week.

Last week’s most-added record makes this week’s biggest climb on the NACC 200. It comes from San Francisco band Deerhoof. Their sixteenth LP, Future Teenage Cave Artists (Joyful Noise), soars 164-15 on the chart this week.

Mississauga, ON musician Michael James Owen Pallett has released his surprise fifth LP, Island (Domino), his first album in six years. Pallett began recording under the name Final Fantasy and his second LP, He Poos Clouds, won the Polaris Music Prize in 2006. He began recording simply as Owen Pallett on his subsequent three LPs. Island is this week’s highest debut at #37.

The most-added album this week, by far, is the new release from Melbourne, Australia quintet, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. Sideways To New Italy, the band’s second LP (Sub Pop), collects 68 Top 10 Adds this week, a full 23 more adds than the #2 most-added record. The album has also debuted at #88 on the NACC 200 this week.
