#1 Clairo | The NACC Charts for September 3, 2019

The first NACC 200 of Fall 2019 ushers in a a new #1 album. After first appearing on the NACC 200 last year with her debut EP, Diary 001, singer-songwriter Clair Cottrill, who records as Clairo, has her first LP become her first #1 on the chart. Out on the Fader Label, Immunity has appeared twice recently in our Wednesday Chart Recap: once as the most-added album of the week and then again as the biggest climber into the Top 10 when she jumped 62-5. This week the album rises 2-1. Next week will usher in an exciting race for the top with a line of albums moving up right behind Clairo including Oh Sees (3-2), Marika Hackman (7-4), and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (21-5).

Another album moving into #1 contention this week is last week’s most-added album, from Melina Mae Duterte, better known as Jay Som. After debuting at #33 on the NACC 200 last week Anak Ko (out on Polyvinyl Records), soars from 33-7 this week. It’s one of three new albums to reach the Top 10 this week. Black Belt Eagle Scout (last week’s biggest climber on the chart) also jumps 23-10 along with the aforementioned King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, moving 21-5.

Rohnert Park, CA punk quintet Ceremony lands the highest debut on the NACC 200 this week. Formed in 2005, the band have recorded six LPs including the new In The Spirit World Now release, their first for Relapse Records. The band opens at #30 this week, besting Red Kross and Ezra Furman who also debut inside the Top 40 of the chart at #37 and #39 respectively.

The NACC 200’s biggest mover this week comes from The Dead South. The Regina, Saskatchewan folk-bluegrass quartet formed in 2012 and have put out three LPs. Their latest, Sugar & Joy, comes less than a year after their sophomore release Illusion And Doubt. Released by Six Shooter Records in Toronto, the album jumps 192-79 on the NACC 200 this week.

In April of 2018, Greta Kline, who records as Frankie Cosmos, spent the first of four weeks at #1 on the NACC 200 with her third studio album, Vessel. Fans of her music are thrilled they didn’t have to wait too long for the follow-up, Close it Quietly. Kline, along with her backing band, who are also known as Frankie Cosmos as a unit, will release their fourth LP on Sub Pop on Friday.

Sturgill Simpson‘s new single “Sing Along” was tied for the most-added NACC single last week and this week debuts at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart. English quartet Bombay Bicycle Club has the most-added single of the week with their new track, “Eat, Sleep & Wake (Nothing But You)” which is also a rare Top 10 overall add this week.
