#1 Fiona Apple | The NACC Charts for the week ending April 28 are live!

Apparently there was a lot of pent up demand for new music from Fiona Apple! Her first album since 2012, Fetch The Bolt Cutters (Epic), is the best-reviewed album of 2020, with a perfect 100 score on Metacritic. The album just became her third Top 10 album on the Billboard 200 debuting at #5. Her three most recent albums have now all gone Top 10 (all in different decades, 2020s, ’10s, and ’00s) there. And here on our chart the album soars 29-1, the third biggest climb ever to #1 on the NACC 200.

With Fiona Apple also landing the biggest climb into the Top 10 this week (Anna Burch also reached the Top 10, up 14-10), we can showcase another artist this week. We always prefer to showcase someone that we never have before. This week we chose Colombian-Canadian musician Lido Pimienta, who won the Polaris Prize in 2017 for her La Papessa release. She makes the third highest climb on the NACC 200 this week (99-21) with Miss Colombia, which is also charting at NACC Canadian (#6) and NACC Latin (#2) this week.

Canadian-duo The Pack A.D. formed in 2006 and have released eight studio albums along the way. Their latest, It Was Fun While It Lasted (Self-Released), has a purposeful title. Though claiming not to be breaking up, Maya Miller and Becky Black have declared this is their final album for the foreseeable future. The album soars 135-28 on the NACC 200 this week.

Celebrated songwriter and musician Lucinda Williams scores the highest debut on the NACC 200 this week with her fifteenth LP, Good Souls Better Angels (Highway 20/Thirty Tigers), which many are noting as her most intense effort yet. The Grammy winner was hailed as “America’s best songwriter” in Time Magazine in 2002. Good Souls Better Angels debuts at #65 on the NACC 200 this week, the lowest highest debut of the year.

Australian-musician (though she now resides in California) Hazel English has the most-added album of the week with her debut LP Wake UP!  Released on Polyvinyl/Marathon Artists, the album is her third release following a debut EP in 2016 and a double EP in 2017. Sixty stations included Wake UP! in their Top 10 adds this week with the album also debuting at #76 on the NACC 200.

Australian-duo The Avalanches (with a vocal assist from Pink Siifu and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo) hold down #1 for a second week on NACC Singles with “Running Red Lights.” Faye Webster collects the most adds of any single this week with “In A Good Way,” her first new music since last year’s Atlanta Millionaires Club LP.

The NACC Top 5 overall NACC Adds, all of this week’s #1 genre releases, and most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at World & R&B/Soul as well as returns to #1 at Latin & Hip Hop.
