Flock Of Dimes extends #1 for a second week

Another NACC 200 record is set this week. By staying at #1 for a second week, Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner (along with her chart-topping predecessor, Arlo Parks) have now accumulated the most consecutive weeks at #1 by solo artists. Wasner records as Flock Of Dimes and her second solo LP, Head Of Roses (Sub Pop) also extends the record for the deepest into a year we’ve ever gone with only three #1s. Waiting in the wings hoping to score the fourth Top 200-topper of 2021 are Dinosaur Jr. (5-2) and Crumb (35-4).

Speaking of Crumb, the Boston-born, Brooklyn-based band pulls off something this week that no other artist has ever accomplished on the NACC 200. Self-Released albums (we don’t include band imprints) in the NACC Top 10 are unfortunately a rarity, but Crumb is now the first with two of them. Their first LP, Jinx, reached #9 in 2019. This week, by soaring 35-4 with their sophomore LP, Ice Melt, not only do they have their second but it is also the highest-charting self-released album on the NACC 200 in over three years.

Two other bands also reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Kero Kero Bonito jumps 18-10. But even Crumb’s 31-spot climb pales in comparison to Manchester Orchestra‘s leap. The band’s sixth studio album, The Million Masks Of God (Loma Vista/Concord) explodes into the top tier, rising 141-9. This gives them their second NACC Top 10 following the Atlanta four-piece’s 2017 LP, A Black Mile To The Surface.

The NACC 200’s highest debut this week comes from last week’s most-added artist. Maine native Juliana Hatfield is enjoying rousing success with her 19th LP, Blood (American Laundromat). The album leaps aboard the NACC 200 this week at #23. This year marks 35 years of making music for Hatfield as a solo artist along with bands Blake Babies, Some Girls, The Lemonheads, and her namesake, The Juliana Hatfield Three.

This week’s most-added album is from Brighton quintet Squid (though they are now based in London). Formed in 2018, the band has released a series of EPs. Their debut LP, Bright Green Field (Warp) came out Friday and it collects 61 Top 10 Adds this week in addition to debuting at #89 on the NACC 200.

Rising 2-1 on the NACC Singles Chart is Chvrches. The Glasgow trio is back with “He Said She Said”. The song looks to be the first single from an upcoming fourth album, tentatively called CVH4. Modest Mouse has returned with “We Are Between.” The song is this week’s most-added single and comes from their upcoming seventh LP, The Golden Casket, due June 25. The new record is their first LP since 2015
