#1 Fontaines D.C. | NACC Charts for the week ending August 18 are live!

Rising to #1 on the NACC 200 this week is Dublin, Ireland quintet Fontaines D.C. Formed in 2017, the band was originally just called The Fontaines, but added D.C. (standing for Dublin City) after discovering a band in Los Angeles had the same name. Their sophomore LP, A Hero’s Death (Partisan), is just the second #1 this year to reach the top never having been featured previously as most-added or a biggest climber on the chart.

This week there are no NACC Top 10 debuts, something that has only happened five times previous to this. Coming close is Girl Friday with the most significant climb up the NACC 200 this week from last week’s most-added album, Androgynous Mary (Hardly Art). Though technically the week’s third-biggest climber (up 109-14), they ended much higher on the chart than the two that achieved bigger numerical jumps.

We’d be remiss not to shine a light on the week’s biggest climber though. Despite being the third-lowest-placing biggest-climber of 2020, the 196-80 move from British quartet IDLES is still significant as they are only the fifth act ever to land the week’s biggest climb with an album that has yet-to-be-released. Four advance tracks from the Partisan Records LP, Ultra Mono (due out September 25), help the band achieve a feature here this week.

The NACC 200’s highest debut comes from one of College & Community radio’s most prolific artists. Formed in Dayton, Ohio in 1983, Guided By Voices, led by Robert Pollard, jumps aboard the NACC 200 at #28. Mirrored Aztec is the band’s 31st LP and its second of the year, following Surrender Your Poppy Field which peaked at #20 in March.

This week’s most added album comes from the Los Angeles quartet Young Jesus. Started in 2010, the art-rock band has released five LPs, including their latest, Welcome To Conceptual Beach, which is their third for Saddle Creek Records. They collected 46 Top 10 Adds and narrowly best Sneaks and Orville Peck for most-added honors.

Fresh off their buzzed-about duet with Taylor Swift, Bon Iver debuts at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week with their own new single, “AUATC” which stands for Ate Up All Their Cake. Canadian duo The Darcys enjoys the most-added single of the week with their new song, “Look Me In The Eyes.”

The NACC 200’s Top 20, the Top 5 overall NACC Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to returns to #1 on the World and Latin Charts, there are new chart-toppers at NACC Non-Comm, NACC Canadian, Hip Hop, Folk, Heavy, R&B/Soul, Electronic and Chill as well.
