Fontaines D.C. lock down #1 for a third straight week

For a good amount of the reporting period this week, Washed Out looked like he’d land his first NACC 200 #1, but when the clock ticked down it was Irish band Fontaines D.C. who locked down the top spot for a third straight week with their sophomore LP, A Hero’s Death (Partisan). Washed Out will make another run at the top next week, but he’ll have some serious competition from our next featured artist….

Three albums make their way into the NACC Top 10 this week. Orville Peck (and by extension, Shania Twain) climbs 13-10 and Girl Friday hops 11-5. But it’s last week’s most-added artist, Alicia Bognanno, who records as Bully, who makes the biggest climb into the upper tier of the chart, leaping 52-3 (and in the process, lining herself up for a run at #1 next week) with her third LP, SUGAREGG (Sub Pop).

Landing this week’s highest debut on the NACC 200 is British jazz musician Nubya Garcia with her long-anticipated debut LP. SOURCE (out on Concord Jazz) follows EPs released in 2017 and 2018. Garcia learned to play the viola, piano, violin, clarinet, and flute before settling on the saxophone. She debuts at #42 on the NACC 200 this week.

The NACC 200’s biggest climb this week comes from Dallas, TX quartet Old 97s. Formed in 1993, they are one of very few bands we’ve featured here that still fields its complete original lineup. The band’s twelfth LP, cleverly entitled Twelfth (out on ATO Records), leaps from 182-38 this week and follows 2020 releases from fellow ‘alt-country’ pioneers Drive-By Truckers and The Jayhawks.

Brooklyn-based band Widowspeak collects more Top 10 Adds than anyone else going for adds this week. Formed in 2010 in Tacoma, WA, the band has recorded five LPs over the years for Captured Tracks, including their latest, Plum. In addition to landing the most-added record of the week, Widowspeak debuts at #77 on the NACC 200 this week.

Bon Iver commands the NACC Singles Chart for a third straight week with their latest single, “AUATC.” Two-time NACC 200 chart-topper Father John Misty is back with new music: “For S” b/w “For R” (part of Sub Pop’s Singles Club Volume 5) is the most-added single of the week and has already debuted at #5 on NACC Singles this week.

The NACC Top 5 overall Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to returns to #1 on the NACC Canadian and R&B/Soul Charts, there are new chart-toppers at NACC NEXT, Heavy, World, Electronic, Chill, & Folk as well.
