The relatively quick turnover at #1 on the NACC 200 continues this week. Dating back to November of last year, no album has spent more than two weeks at #1, a stretch of nine straight chart-toppers. Ousting Sharon Van Etten this week after her two weeks on top is the Los Angeles duo Girlpool. They scored their second #1 on the NACC 200 (following 2017’s Powerplant) with their Anti- Records release, What Chaos Is Imaginary. Cherry Glazerr looks to be Girlpool’s next closest #1 competitor, rising 9-5 this week.
Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Bob Mould rises 11-10 with his Sunshine Rock LP. But the biggest climber into the Top 10 comes from Portland, OR-based indie pop folk band Y La Bamba, fronted by Luz Elena Mendoza. Their fifth LP, Mujeres (out on Tender Loving Empire) races from 19-7 this week on the NACC 200.
The week’s highest debut on the NACC 200 comes from Xiu Xiu. The band was formed in 2002 by Jamie Stewart (who is the only constant member of the band since its inception). Girl With Basket Of Fruit is Xiu Xiu’s eleventh LP and their fourth on Polyvinyl (dating back to 2012’s Always). The album jumps aboard the NACC 200 this week at #43.
Enjoying the biggest climb this week on the chart is Bergen, Norway dream-pop trio, Chain Wallet. Their Jansen Records-released No Ritual is the band’s second LP, following their eponymous debut in 2016. Chain Wallet leaps from 166-45 this week on the NACC 200.
Collecting more Top 10 adds than anyone else this week is the Sydney, Australia-born Julia Jacklin. Her second LP, Crushing, is being met with massive critical praise, currently landing at #3 on Metacritic’s list of the best-reviewed albums of the year so far. Ninety NACC-reporting stations made the Polyvinyl release one of their Top 10 adds this week.
Vampire Weekend have now spent more time at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart than anyone else has since it launched last year. “Harmony Hall” b/w “2021” spends a fourth week on top. Chromatics return with this week’s most-added single “Time Rider” (seemingly the first taste of their infamously delayed Dear Tommy record).
