Japanese Breakfast spends a second week at #1 with third LP, Jubilee

Japanese Breakfast (fronted by Michelle Launer) keeps the hot streak for female solo artists and female-fronted bands going on the NACC 200 by raising the number of weeks on top by this group of artists to 20 for the year. That’s a full 80% of 2021 thus far. Japanese Breakfast’s third LP, Jubilee (Dead Oceans/Secretly Group), spends a second week atop the NACC 200 as well as the NACC NEXT Chart. No immediate challengers for #1 look obvious at the moment with the Top 4 of the NACC 200 locked up for three straight weeks.

Only one new album reaches the NACC Top 10 this week. Butterfly 3000, the NACC 200’s highest debut and most-added record from last week, races ahead 19-6. Released on King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard‘s own KGLW label, the album is the Australian group’s 18th overall LP and becomes their fourth NACC Top 10 record. If it reaches #1, it will be their second chart-topper on the NACC 200.

After spending six weeks atop the NACC Singles Chart with “We Are Between” (a song that recently became their 5th Alternative Rock Top 10 and second chart-topper at AAA), Modest Mouse‘s seventh LP has been released. The Golden Casket (Epic) came in at #2 on the NACC 200 Adds Chart this week, but more importantly, soars onto the NACC 200 at #13. That debut is the highest this week is a tie for the fourth-highest this year.

Besting Modest Mouse for most-added honors by just two adds this week is Cali quartet The Mountain Goats. Formed in 1991, the band, who for much of its existence was a project for primary and originally sole member John Darnielle, has just released its 20th LP, Dark In Here (Merge). The album debuts at #56 on the NACC 200 as well.

British Electronic duo Jungle has reached #1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week with “Talk About It.” It follows “Keep Moving” (which also reached the Top 5 of the NACC Singles Chart earlier this month). Duluth duo Low are back with their first new music since 2018. “Days Like These” comes from their upcoming 13th LP, Hey What, due Sept. 10.

The Top 5 overall NACC Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to a return to #1 on Latin, there are new chart-toppers at Heavy, Chill, World, Electronic, and Jazz this week
