The top of the NACC 200 is unusually fluid with our third #1 in as many weeks and a fairly big shake-up in the Top 5 this week. When the dust settled, we had our biggest climb to #1 since May. Melina Mae Duterte, aka Jay Som, gets her third feature in a row here. Two weeks ago her third LP, Anak Ko, was most-added. Last week she enjoyed the biggest climb into the NACC Top 10, rising 33-7 And this week she leaps over Marika Hackman (4-2) and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (5-5) rising 7-1 with her new Polyvinyl release.Jay Som’s most likely challenger for the top next week comes from Frankie Cosmos. No stranger to the #1 spot on the NACC 200 (their last LP hit #1), the band, led by Greta Kline, scores not only the biggest climb into the Top 10 this week, but the chart’s overall biggest climb, soaring 157-8. Their Sub Pop Records release, Vessel, is their third LP.
With Frankie Cosmos taking two of our features this week, we are able to spotlight another act. We’ve chosen the other band to reach our Top 10 this week: English quartet, Ride. Formed in 1988, they released four albums before disbanding in 1996. A one-off performance occurred in 2001 with the band reforming in 2014. They released their fifth album (over 20 years after their fourth) in 2017. This week they reach the NACC Top 10 for a second time, moving 11-10 with their Wichita release, This Is Not A Safe Place.
The NACC 200’s highest debut this week comes from Boy Scouts. Neither a boy nor a boy scout, the name is actually the pseudonym for Oakland artist Taylor Vick. She first released music under the moniker in 2016. Her latest effort, Free Company, is her first for Anti- Records, and she’s off to a great start, leaping aboard the NACC 200 at #23.
Collecting more Top 10 Adds than anyone else releasing new music this week is Chicago quintet, Twin Peaks. We featured the band once before, back in November of 2017, when they scored the week’s highest debut with their Sweet ’17 Singles Series. They’re back now with their fourth LP, Lookout Low, out on Grand Jury.
Wilco returns to the top of the NACC Singles Chart this week. “Love Is Everywhere (Beware)” climbs 4-1 for a fourth non-consecutive week at #1. Swedish indie-pop quartet, Hater has the most-added single of the week with “Four Tries Down” b/w “It’s A Mess.”
