#1 Jay Som | The NACC Charts for September 24, 2019

Jay Som holds off all of her competitors and holds down #1 on the NACC 200 again this week with her third LP, Anak Ko. The Polyvinyl release becomes the fifth album this year to spend three or more weeks on top. Next week will give Jay Som her biggest challenge yet to hang on to #1. Sitting right behind her are Frankie Cosmos (2-2), Bon Iver (5-3) and (Sandy) Alex G (45-4). It’s anyone’s guess who will occupy the penthouse next week. Watch this space!

Speaking of (Sandy) Alex G, his eighth LP, House Of Sugar, is the only new record to reach the NACC Top 10 this week. The Domino Records release soars from #45 (where it debuted last week) all the way up to #4 this week. You’ll be able to catch (Sandy) Alex G live very soon. A US tour kicks off October 17 in Washington DC and runs through November 17, wrapping in Boston. He also plays one hometown show in Philadelphia on November 30 before heading overseas in February.

The NACC 200’s highest debut this week comes from English electronic quintet Metronomy. Formed in 1999 as a bedroom project for lead singer Joseph Mount when he was still a teenager living at home with his parents, the project has grown over the years and the band has released six studio albums, including their latest, Metronomy Forever. The album soars onto the NACC 200 this week at #20.

The biggest climber on this week’s chart comes from Portland, OR punk trio Mean Jeans. Since 2006, Billy Jeans, Jeans Wilder, and Junior Jeans have been releasing their brand of loud, humorous songs. Their fifth LP (and third for Fat Wreck Chords), Gigantic Sike, has the band jumping 193-103 on the NACC 200 this week. It’s actually the smallest gain to achieve the weekly biggest climb spot this year, but that doesn’t take any shine off the accomplishment.

The most-added record of the week comes from Walla Walla, WA quartet Chasity Belt. They are no strangers to our NACC Wednesday Chart Recap as their last album was also a most-added record, as well as one of the biggest climbers and a #1 record in June of 2017. Their fourth LP, a self-titled effort, actually gets almost the exact number of Top 10 adds (93) as their third LP, I Used To Spend So Much Time Alone (94).

Sturgill Simpson rises back to #1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week with “Sing Along.” It’s his second (and final) week on top as his Sound & Fury album will be out on Friday. Collecting the most Top 10 adds (by far) of any single this week is Soccer Mommy. Her new “Lucy” release is the only single to make the NACC Top 30 Adds Chart this week.

You can find the Top 5 of the NACC Adds Chart, all of this week’s #1 genre releases, and most-added genre records below. There is a new #1 at Electronic, Blues, & Chill as well as returns to the top at Jazz & Folk.
