Broken Social Scene lock down #1 for a third non-consecutive week on the NACC 200 with their fifth full-length studio release, Hug Of Thunder. We’ve profiled BSS so many times here recently that there isn’t much else to say. Did we tell you all fifteen original members are represented here? Sure did. Did we mention many of them have gone on to great success outside the band? Yes’m. BSS will have to fend off another beloved Canadian band next week in Arcade Fire, who rise 4-2 this week (and are #1 on the NACC Next & Non-Comm Charts). That means 21 Canadians are involved in our top two records.

Roaring into the Top 10 this week are Downtown Boys. One of two new records in the top 10, they leap from 37-8. When the Providence, RI band, led by Victoria Ruiz, hit the scene in 2011, Rolling Stone dubbed them ‘America’s Most Exciting Punk Band.’ Cost Of Living is the band’s third LP.

The NACC 200’s highest debut comes from Trailer Trash Tracys. Like Downtown Boys, they formed in 2011 and like Downtown Boys they have a core duo who started the band. And like Downtown Boys, one of those core members happens to be a talented woman on lead vocals. But unlike Downtown Boys, her name is not Victoria Ruiz. It’s Susanne Aztoria. She and her bandmates call London home and their second release, Althaea (out on Double Six), debuts at #39.

Making an impressive 177-25 jump this week (and easily scoring the week’s top move in the process) is last week’s top add-getter, Rainer Maria. College and community radio seems thrilled to have the band back after an eleven year break between albums. Their latest, entitled S/T is their tenth release and boasts the same lineup as when they started. Caithlin De Marrais, Kaia Fischer and William Kuehn have always been the only members of Rainer Maria.

Samuel Ervin Beam, better known as Iron & Wine, has been, dare we say, a core artist at college and community radio since his debut album in 2002. His latest, Beast Epic, is his fifth studio album, though there have been a number of EPs and some collaborative albums (2015’s with Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell and 2016’s with labelmate Jesca Hoop) as well. Congrats to Shine On and Sub Pop for Iron & Wine’s solid start.

Finally, a special mention for our inaugural Folk Chart that launched this week! Guitarist David Rawlings tops the chart with his eighth collaborative LP with Gillian Welch. And we’d be remiss not to mention the legendary Glen Campbell, who passed away on August 8th after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. His final album, Adiós, is #5 on the Folk Chart this week. RIP.
