The NACC Charts for February 13, 2018 are LIVE!

After racing 24-1 last week, Ty Segall enjoys a second week at #1 with his Drag City release, Freedom’s Goblin. This is Segall’s second NACC 200 #1, following last year’s self-titled topper. Since his 2008 debut (which was also self-titled), the wildly prolific Segall has released a new studio LP every year except 2015 giving him 10 releases in almost 10 years. And sandwiched between those releases are another fourteen albums, EPs, over 20 7″ singles and numerous compilation appearances. Segall will try to land a third week at #1 next week as albums pile up behind him including Porches (3-2), Calexico (8-4) and Jeff Rosenstock (11-5).

Another album lining itself up for a potential #1 run is last week’s top add from Anna Burch. Quit The Curse (out on Polyvinyl) debuted last week at #79 and races ahead to #6 this week. Burch grew up in St. Joseph, MI on the western shore of Lake Michigan. She studied in Chicago and then relocated to Detroit where she currently resides. Burch has a number of tour dates this month, March and April including one in Detroit on March 1st. Her first release is now a Top 10-charting record.

Enjoying the NACC 200’s biggest climb this week is the third release from New York-based singer-songwriter Caroline Rose. It’s been four years since her last release, I Will Not Be Afraid. Her sound has expanded exponentially on LONER from the Americana/Alt-Country sound of Afraid. It’s a growth that Rose says may seem more shocking only because of the time between releases and an evolution that happened behind the scenes. Of the album Rose says, “I can say with certainty that this feels like the first body of work that I’ve put out that really sounds and feels like me and my personality.” The New West release soars from 132-25 on the NACC 200 this week.

The highest debut on the chart this week comes from Leads, England quintet Hookworms. Microshift is the band’s third studio album, all released on Domino Records. Their first release, 2013’s, Pearl Mystic, was named the best album of the year by Loud and Quiet, Brooklyn Vegan and Drowned In Sound and a critically acclaimed sophomore album followed. But the four year break between their second and third albums was not planned. A flood in 2015 took with it the band’s back catalog, their new recordings and the studio itself. The studio was rebuilt courtesy of crowdfunding, friends and other bands who rallied around Hookworms. Their latest release debuts at #37 on the chart this week and it is already the best reviewed album of the young year.

Three albums land 100+ Top 10 Adds this week, but in the end, Palm came out on top. Rock Island is the Philadelphia band’s second release on Carpark Records. The New York Times called the band “one of the most ambitious and promising acts in today’s art-rock scene.” Scoring 114 Top 10 Adds gave the band a victory over Superchunk, Loma and a number of other high profiles adds this week including MGMT and Franz Ferdinand. With a debut at #49 on the NACC 200 this week, expect a big jump, perhaps even into the Top 10, next week.
