St. Vincent Dominates the Chart for a Second Week

The NACC 200 should be renamed the St. Vincent Chart this week. Tulsa, OK native Annie Clark, who records as St. Vincent, completely dominates the chart this week in a way that perhaps no other artist ever has. Her sixth LP, Daddy’s Home (Loma Vista/Concord), scored two and half times more than even the #2 record this week so it looks like she may be settling in for a lengthy stay at #1. Clark also spends a third week at #1 on NACC NEXT and a second on NACC Non-Comm.

Two new albums reach the NACC 200’s Top 10. The first is a Montreal seven-piece Teke::Teke. Originally started as a tribute band for legendary Japanese guitarist Takeshi Terauchi, the group evolved to writing their own original music. The first fruit of that transition is Shirushi (Kill Rock Stars). The album rises 11-9 to give the band their first NACC 200 Top 10 record.

The second album reaching the NACC Top 10 this week is the second straight for Los Angeles musician, producer, DJ, and rapper Steven Ellison, who records as Flying Lotus. His seventh album, Yasuke (Warp), is the score to LeSean Thomas’ Netflix anime series of the same name about a Black samurai in medieval Japan and rises 12-10 this week. It follows his 2019 LP Flamagra, which reached the Top 5 of the NACC 200.

Exploding onto the NACC 200 at #11 this week is last week’s most-added album, Perfect (Epitaph), from Philadelphia trio Mannequin Pussy. Their new EP (which follows three LPs released between 2014 and 2019) is the third-highest debut of 2021 and the highest-debuting EP ever on the NACC 200.

The most-added album on NACC 200 Adds this week comes from the duo of Melina Duterte (who records on her own as Jay Som) and Palehound frontwoman Ellen Kempner. Together they are releasing their debut LP under the name Bachelor. Doomin’ Sun (Polyvinyl) collects 62 Top 10 Adds this week and is one of the Top 5 highest debuts of the week on the NACC 200 at #57.

Modest Mouse locks down a third straight week #1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week with “We Are Between.” It’s the lead single from their upcoming seventh LP, The Golden Casket, due out June 25. Vancouver trio The Zolas have returned with new music for their upcoming fourth LP, Come Back To Life, due July 16. “Yung DiCaprio” b/w “I Feel The Transition” is this week’s most-added single.

The NACC Top 5 overall Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new chart-toppers at R&B/Soul, Hip Hop, and Blues this week.
