#1 Of Montreal | NACC Charts for the week ending January 28

The NACC 200 ushers in its first brand new #1 of 2020 as Of Montreal advances 2-1 in just their third week on the chart with UR FUN (Polyvinyl), the Athens, GA-based band’s 16th LP dating back to their formation in 1996. The beloved College radio staple topples Beck who logged the last new #1 of 2019 and held over with three additional weeks on top to start the year.

Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Canadian DJ Kaytranada jumps 17-9. But it’s Greenville, SC native and second-generation bluesman Marcus King who makes the biggest move, advancing 30-7 with his fourth studio album, El Dorado, released on Fantasy/Concord. King grew up as a pre-teen sideman to his father Marvin King.

Scoring the highest debut of the young new year is Brisbane, Australia five-piece, WAAX. They had last week’s most-added album with their Dew Process debut LP, Big Grief. This week the band, fronted by Marie “Maz” DeVita, soars onto the NACC 200 at #13.

Landing the biggest climb not only of the week but of 2020 so far is Montclair, NJ band Pinegrove. Two core members: Evan Stephens Hall and Zack Levine, are joined by a group of occasional members. Together they’ve released four LPs including their latest Marigold, which races from 181-37 on the NACC 200 this week.

This week’s most-added album happens to also be the year’s most-added thus far. It comes from Montreal’s Wolf Parade. Signed to Sub Pop, the band formed in 2003 releasing three albums before disbanding in 2011. They reformed in 2016 and two more LPs have followed including their latest, Thin Mind, which collects 80 Top 10 adds this week. The album also debuts at #46 on the NACC 200.

Real Estate leaps 9-1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week with “Paper Cup,” the first song from their fifth LP, The Main Thing, due February 28. Alternative rock legends Pearl Jam return with their first new music in seven years and land most-added single honors with “Dance Of The Clairvoyants” from their upcoming eleventh LP, Gigaton, due March 27.
