Soccer Mommy becomes just the third artist in NACC history to land three #1 albums

Sophie Allison, better known as Soccer Mommy, has lifted herself into rarified territory this week as her third LP, Sometimes, Forever (Loma Vista/Concord), rises 2-1 on the NACC 200. She becomes just the third artist in NACC history to land three #1 albums. Andy Shauf has also accomplished this feat (solo and with his band Foxwarren) and Jeff Tweedy has enjoyed four #1s (solo and with his band Wilco). Also of note, Allison is now a perfect 3 for 3 on albums topping our chart. Kudos to Loma Vista/Concord as well with rare back-to-back #1 titles following Andrew Bird’s #1 last week.

Angel Olsen enjoys a healthy rebound this week and makes the biggest move within the Top 10. She rises 7-3 with her sixth LP, Big Time (Jagjaguwar/Secretly Group). It’s a new peak for the album and gets Olsen within two spots of her second NACC 200 chart-topper. Olsen is currently on her Wild Hearts Tour with Sharon Van Etten (who also rebounds on the NACC 20 this week up 17-12) and Julien Baker.

Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week and both climbed from outside the Top 30 to reach the top tier. Last week’s most-added album, Household Name (Polyvinyl), from Los Angeles duo Momma, leaps 39-8 on the NACC 200 this week. Their third LP also debuts on both the NACC NEXT and Non-Comm Charts this week. Momma kicks off a US Tour on August 12 in Providence, RI opening a string of dates for Snail Mail.

Also reaching the NACC Top 10 this week is Toronto quartet Metric. Led by Emily Haines, the College Radio chart-toppers’ eighth LP, Formentera (Thirty Tigers), soars 36-9, giving the band their second straight NACC Top 10 album following the #2-peaking Art Of Doubt in 2018. Formentera also climbs 3-1 this week to top the NACC NEXT Chart. Metric launches their lengthy North American Tour on August 11 (it runs through late October) and includes a hometown show with Spoon & Interpol on August 26.

Honorable mention this week goes to Moor Mother, who makes the highest debut on the NACC 200 at #32, and Guided By Voices, enjoying the week’s biggest climb, up 176-43.

Most-added honors this week are enjoyed by Bea Laus, who records as Beabadoobee. Her first LP, 2020’s Fake It Flowers, also took most-added honors and eventually went to #1 on the NACC 200. This week her second LP, Beatopia (Dirty Hit) begins its run on a similar trajectory. Only time will tell if it ends the same, but the album has already scored a Top 3 debut on the NACC 200 at #58 this week.

NACC 200 chart-toppers Alvvays wastes no time rising to #1 on NACC Singles this week. “Pharmacist” is the first single from their upcoming third LP, Blue Rev, due out October 7. The track jumps 8-1 after taking ‘most-added single’ honors just last week. Death Cab For Cutie is back with “Here To Forever,” this week’s most-added new single. It’s the second song from their forthcoming Asphalt Meadows LP, out September 16. The latest single is following “Roman Candles” which spent three weeks at #1 on NACC Singles earlier this year. Tying for most-added new single is sister duo Tegan & Sara. “Yellow” is the second preview from their 10th studio album, Crybaby, due October 21.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to returns to #1 at World and Heavy, there are new #1s at NACC NEXT, NACC Non-Comm, Hip Hop, Jazz, and Blues this week.
