#1 Soccer Mommy // The NACC Charts for March 20 are live

Soccer Mommy holds down the top spot of the NACC 200 for a second week with her sophomore Fat Possum release, Clean. Her self-described “chill but kinda sad” sound can be heard live this week and next in a batch of Midwest stops and her tour continues on right into May. She’ll be playing a handful of dates in June with Liz Phair as well. Check out the Rolling Stone feature on Soccer Mommy here.

The Breeders are back after a 10-year release gap with their fifth studio album, All Nerve. The band was formed in 1989 by Kim Deal of The Pixies and Tanya Donelly of Throwing Muses. Donelly went on to form Belly and left The Breeders. Kim then asked her sister Kelley to take over on guitar, though famously, Kelley didn’t know how to play the instrument. The band scored their biggest hit with “Cannonball” (from their second album, Last Splash) when it reached #2 on the Modern Rock Chart in 1993. There was a break from 2003-2008, and a different line-up when they got back together, but this current lineup of the band is the same one that existed in the band’s Last Splash heyday. All Nerve was released on 4AD (the band’s release partner for the duration of their career) earlier this month and the record jumps 13-7 this week. It’s one of two new albums in our Top 10. Joining them are Superorganism (14-10).

Leaping 172-27 this week to score the NACC 200’s biggest move is last week’s top add, Hot Snakes. The San Diego-based quintet has released four studio albums since their Automatic Midnight debut in 2000. Their latest, Jericho Sirens, is their first album since 2004 and also their first for Sub Pop. It’s currently in the Top 10 on Metacritic’s list of the best-reviewed albums of 2018 so far.

This week’s highest debut on the chart comes from Grammy-nominated Portland, Oregon band The Decemberists. Lead by Colin Meloy, the five-piece has been a staple at college and community radio since their 2002 debut, Castaways and Cutouts. I’ll Be Your Girl, out on Capitol Records, is their eighth release and is also inside the Top 3 on the NACC Adds Chart this week.

It’s definitely old-school week here at NACC. With the exception of Soccer Mommy, the rest of our featured bands formed between 1989 and 2000. The most-added record of the week comes from Athens, Georgia’s Of Montreal. Formed in 1996, the only constant member of the band has been the founder and lead singer Kevin Barnes. A cast of 20 other musicians has been part of Of Montreal over the years. White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood is the band’s 23rd (!) release and 15th in-a-row on Polyvinyl.
