The turnover at the top of the NACC 200 continues this week as Sophie Allison aka Soccer Mommy, jumps 3-1 to bump Best Coast out of #1 with her Color Theory LP (Loma Vista/Concord). We’ve now had five different albums in the top spot the last five weeks, which matches the longest such streak the NACC 200 has seen. Exactly two years ago, in mid-March of 2018, Soccer Mommy’s third LP, Clean, climbed to #1 on the NACC 200.
Toronto musician Meghan Remy, who records as U.S. Girls, has the only new entry to the NACC Top 10 this week. Her seventh LP, Heavy Light, soars from 56-8 on the NACC 200. Interestingly, just like Soccer Mommy, her previous album, In A Poem Unlimited, was also featured for its climb into the NACC Top 10 exactly two years ago back in mid-March.
The NACC 200’s biggest climb this week comes from last week’s most-added artist: The Districts. The Pennsylvania quartet’s fourth LP, You Know I’m Not Going Anywhere, jumps from 136-24 this week. Their entire output as a band has been put out by Fat Possum Records.
The debut album from Madison, Wisconsin band Disq missed being the most-added record last week by one solitary Top 10 add. They make up for missing the spotlight last week by scoring the highest debut on the NACC 200 this week. Their Saddle Creek release, Collector, storms the chart this week at #40.
Taking most-added honors is Christchurch, New Zealand quartet Yumi Zouma. Their third LP, Truth Or Consequences, is their first on Polyvinyl. Upon forming in 2014, their early material garnered so much buzz online that the band was signed before they had ever played live or even held a band practice together. In addition to collecting more Top 10 Adds than any other record this week the album also debuts on the NACC 200 at #97.
Phoebe Bridgers takes over #1 on the NACC Singles Chart with “Garden Song,” the first single from her upcoming second solo release. There is a tie for the most-added single of the week. It comes from English trio Demob Happy (“Mother Machine”) and a new collaboration between Australian DJ/producer Flume and Toro Y Moi (“The Difference”).
